Timing belts are suppose to be changed every 60,000 miles.

I was told timing belts need to be changed after about 90,000-100,000 miles.

Find images on 2004 kia sorento on the timeing belt

timing marks are on the sprockets and pulleys not the belt
if you have replaced the belt you will see where the timing marks are
if not and the engine is running but not well then the timing may be correct and other sensors are at fault
to do the job I strongly suggest that you buy a workshop manual for the vehicle and carefully read the page on belt replacement as it is not an easy job and can cost more money than the belt is worth

Does my 2009 kia sorrento 3.3 liter have a timing belt or timing chain and when should it be replaced if at all?

Dont know offhand to be honest ,if it is a timing chain then its running in oil and should ever need changing although the tensioners may need changing after 250,000 miles or so but again this depends how regular the oil is changed i recomend around 5000miles with a oil filter every thrid oil change but opinions vary on this

Is it possible to change the a/c compressor on my 2003 KIA Sorento ourselves, or should we take it to a mechanic?

Hello, It is possible to replace the compressor, you will need to remove the lines from the compressor unhook the plug from the compressor, remove the belt, then remove the bolts holding the unit in. After Replacing the compressor you WILL need to recharge the system with R134A coolant and oil. DO NOT FORGET THE OIL AS THAT IS THE ONLY LUBRICATION THAT THE INNER WORKING OF THE PUMP. Most all auto stores will have 1) A recharge kit ( I recommend getting the ones that have a PSI gauge on them that will let you know when you have the correct amount in the system) And 2) The oil simply ask for both and they will know what your talking about. Oil first then the charge. The bottle will also include some helpful guidelines to correctly charge the system. Hope this helps you.
