Several Suggestions,1 the wiring on the back of the Instrument panel, corrosion found on many early focuses to circuitry on binnicles, another is the sensor on the back of the gear box,not easily accesable but under £30 for part if fit self, nearer £140 and no guarentee at Garage! Failing this look on web pages for others having same issues..theres enough of them!

SOURCE: I have a 1997 Ford Fiesta and yesterday I notice

The cable probably came disconnected. Check the transmission side first as it's easier. Black cable, starts at the gauges, and runs through the firewall. Most just come unscrewed over time and fall down in the dash.

Have the vehicle speed sensor checked, that is tied in with the speedometer.

SOURCE: ford fiesta registered yr 2000. speedometer

hi this is a common fault on the focus its usally a faulty speedo sensor that is fitted in the gearbox
if you open the bonnet and look bettween the engine and gearbox and towards the firewall/bulkhead
you will see the speedo sensor held in with a small steel roll pin remove the roll pin and pull the sensor out and dissconnect the wires to it and peplace it with a new sensor ,a healthy dose of wd40 penetrating spray will help to get the sensor out

My n reg ford fiesta s speedo has stopped working

Disconnect the speedometer cable and check to make sure the cable inside is not broken. There is one connection on the top of the transmission and one behind the speedometer. Sometimes these can be serviced using a universal cable if available. The length is trimmed to fit and the fitting is crimped onto the end.
