The remote on my 1999 Buick Century isn't working. I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one and replaced it. Still not working. I tried the 7 sec resyn process and it still doesn't work. Turns out the original battery was good. I had it tested. Any ideas?
Get a remote replacement is faulty.
Try a second battery, just in case first replacement was a bad battery. If remote still does not work, then is faulty. Being a rather inexpensive part it is better replacing the remote than trying to fix it. Go back to the car dealer and get a replacement coded on your car frequencies.
You need to buy an eeprom programmer and to study a bit first, you also need a dedicated software available only to official dealers.
No way you can do it youself, otherwise any thief in this world will be doing the same!
Try this hack procedure, I don't know if it works:
"1 Sit in the driver's seat.
2 Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
3 Close all vehicle doors.
4 Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.
5 While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and
remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock
cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition
lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the
rest of the procedure.
6 Release the door lock switch. You will hear three chimes. This chime
feedback indicates that transmitter programming is active.
7 Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the
keyless entry transmitter for 12 seconds. You will hear two chimes.
This chime feedback indicates that the transmitter has been programmed
successfully.
8 Repeat step 8 for the rest of the transmitters (for a total of 4 transmitters).
9 Exit this procedure by removing the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder."
The hack above is supposed to work on Century up to 1999, there is no known way to home program remotes for buck Century model 1999/2005, without buying expensive equipment
Cool, thanks a lot.

I concur with Ginko. If you have followed his steps and it is still not working, there is no cheaper solution than what he suggested, you will probably have to go to the dealer. Or to another pfofessional that installs keyless locks.

I already tried another battery. Still no good. I was at the dealer and they can try to reprogram for me. Might cost me $45 or more if the remote itself is bad. Can you give me reprogram instructions?
I haven't heard anything I didn't know before I started this process. You're basically telling me to go back to the dealer. I was already there and found out I can leave the good and bad remote and the car and they will try to reprogram it. I was hoping I could get a solution that would be cheaper.
This was successful. Thank you very much. It did save me at least $35. Only comment..on the instructions, step 8 should read, repeat step 7 for the rest of the transmitters.
Thank you Ginko. Good job!
