the problem you are having is the drivers door latch mecanism, i just changed one on a 2002 jetta yesterday, the electronics in the latch get worn out, the only place to get one if from a dealer.
reset the central locking system by locking car with key in drivers door and hold key over for 30 secs.then pressing and holding down unlock button on keypad OR unlock door with key and hold key over 30secs (windows may go down, thats okay,some cars are fitted with auto windows)then press and hold lock button on keypad.making sure that in both cases you know the keyfob battery is in good nick....should reset system
You could have a problem if you remove the fuse .It is located on the drivers side dashboard. The alarm most likly means you need a drivers side door lock actuator. The convenience computer controls many accessory's. If the alarm keeeps going off try to turn it off by turning the trunk lock to off.It is easy to find the problem with the proper factory scan tool.
