Please make sure you have the vehicle's shifting gear on park if not take it to the nearest Volvo dealer mechanic for repair!

Turn wheel left & right as much as possible(back & forth) while getting someone to pull on key--mechanism jammed--if it happens again -take to garage for repair.

Sounds like a broken wafer inside the ignition -- or it could be a bad spring(?) -- try and spray a SMALL amout of silicone/teflon based lubrication down into the lock ( along side the key ) and wiggle it back and forth and up and down -- this may release the key,,, if not - then the ignition will need to be replaced/rebuilt by a automotive locksmith.

2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible... cant remove ignition key, ... yes car is in reverse

If the key has not been coded with the new ECU the electronics will not release the key.
Everything, Saab/Volvo is coded to the ECU.

2007 volvo v50 key stuck in ignition vehicle totally shut down

It is best to call a locksmith, unless you know how to take apart the ignition tumbler and put the assemly locks in the correct order. It sounds like the key tumbler hold in broke and all the tumblers are loose and causing the key to be stuck. If you want to hurry the job for the locksmith and save money, buy the key tumbler assembly for your vehicle for the locksmith to install. Otherwise he will have to make the trip to buy the assembly, which in turn costs you more money. Mechanic shops can replace key tumblers too but when it is stuck in the column, it takes a lot of effort to remove if they are unskilled.

2005 Volvo S40 with key stuck in ignition. It turns off but key doesn't come, out of the steering wheel. Please advise needed, if lock change is required estimated cost of part and labour please.

Some ignition system locks will not release the key unless you push in towards the column while turning further off. It is a safety device to stop in advertent removal of the key while moving. Try that first.

Valet key will not start volvo s80. turns in

thats because your regular key probably has an electic connection to the car so go to your volvo dealer and they should be able to clear anything up or replace it with a key that will work

Ignition Key to my 2000 Volvo C70 isn't catching.

Lock cylinder is shot and any volvo dealer can order the lock cylinder via vin # to match the keys you have.

Will not start dash reeds key error

V50 2005 and similar year have this problem.

The ignition key has two parts:
- remote control (with battery)
- RFID identification (without battery)

Car has two separate locks.
The upper lock is where you put the key inside and turn to ignite.
The lower lock is right at the steering wheel which electronically locks the wheel.

The "upper lock" sometimes refuses to recognize the key. It might be a bad contact or bad mechanical placement. Typical problem for this car.
Try hitting the dashboard and the lock with your fist few times (not too much!). If there was only a bad contact, the car may start a few times.

If you have dropped the ignition key from 1m of height (or higher) to the concrete, the RFID module inside may not have survived. Try with spare key.

If nothing helps, take the car to the volvo shop to change the upper lock. That was my case...
The lock looks like this:
