Take it off the door handle side of the cable, not the latch side.

SOURCE: Volkswagen golf GTI 1994 2L wont turn over,
Hi, the likely problem is your safety interlock. If you have a manual transmission, the interlock is above the clutch pedal. If you have automatic trans, the interlock may be on the shifter or the transmission. Let me know if you can't find it.
Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

SOURCE: Volkswagen golf GTI 1994 2L automatic window wont
Do you mean the car is automatic or the window? (punctuation required :o) If by automatic window, you mean pull it up 2 clicks and it closes all the way, same for down then it probably needs resetting. Most manufactures have a self-set procedure which is as follows. with ignition on, hold the window button down for 20 seconds, then hold it up for 20 seconds then repeat the process 1 more time. This resets most brands of electric window.
Hope this helps.

Figured it out. Also, I'm op.
Step 1: remove the inside door panel. (put a rag or towel in the bottom of the door in case anything falls down the door.)
Step 2: remove the the 4 bolts that hold the latch, and the outside door handle.
Step 3: remove the outside door handle.
Step 4: remove the vacuum tube and electrical wires from the latch.
Step 5: take off the bar that connects the latch to the inside handle.
Step 6: remove latch mechanism (you'll probably have to loosen the window rails, don't unscrew the top one all the way.)
Step 7: take the latch apart. there is 1 screw and 3 plastic locks.
Step 8: figure out how the latch mechanism works, see if you can fix it. In my case there a bar that is supposed to move up when the door is unlocked. It wasn't moving up, so it just needed some lube.
put it back together by doing the steps in reverse order.
