Gregson answer is right ,you should also check your fluid level and condition you said 2005 this van is now 14-15 years old depending on the build date on the door sticker and by no means is a spring chicken look up the recalls and if yours is listed file a payment request with ford for reimbursement

It's the torque converter. The gears inside the torque converter wear out and cause the transmission to rev as though it's in neutral. This transmission is known for having these issues. There is a recall on it.

How do I check the transmission fluid in my 2005 Mercury Monterey 3.0 L AWD

Check your owners manual.
If the van does not have a dipstick, you are supposed to use a plug in the side of the transmission.

My van will not go into reverse

There may be a solenoid which activates/energezies to engage the reverese. I just honestly can't remember if this transmission has such a solenoid or not. If it does they are typically fairly easy to get at and change. Look for wiring on the side of the transmission and check for looseness.

Also, as crazy as it sounds if the fluid is bad that can cause all kinds of crazy stuff to happen or not work right.
There is also a chance the Torque converter is starting to go, there are other signs of a bad Torque converter as well, but this can be one as well.

Got an oil change and transmission fluid change, right after van sounds like an airplane taxing down the runway. Was fine before anyone touched it. Louder when you turn or accelerate.

have a shop check it out. Did they just change the trans fluid or "flush it", bad things usually happen when transmissions are flushed. check the transmission and power steering fluid levels.

When filling with gasoline it shuts off many times

the vent is the small tube that runs down the side of the filler neck make sure it is not kinked or blocked of. dust and dirt would not do this unless it's accualy in the tank

Brake warning light came on on my 2005 chrysler town and country Van

If it is the (BRAKE!) light the sensor in the master cylinder is sensing that the vehicle is low on brake fluid. Very seriously check the mastercylinder and be sure that the fluid is full. If the light is on, and the fluid appears full the sensor in the master cylinder may be stuck and giving the computer a false reading. If the fluid is low, fill with fluid and get the vehicle to a service center, when the fluid is gone so are your brakes so be careful.

Low air tire warning still on after new tires.

Push the Setup button three times, until your driver display says something like "Press Reset for system check".
Then push Reset. The system check will start, rotating through a series of checks.
About the fifth or sixth check will be the tire pressure. It'll say something like "Hold Reset if tires are OK". While that's up, hold the Reset button. After 3 or 4 seconds, the tire warning light will click off. You need to be ready for it, because you don't get very long.

Engine light stays on 2005 Chrylser Town/Country

If the Check Engine light is on, your vehicle will should have fault codes stored in the computer. Have a service tech perform a diagnostics test on your vehicle to extract the codes. This will give you an idea of the problem. My guess... O2 sensor since your vehicle is running fine. Codes will be necessary to verify.

Liftgate on van not working at all

There are 2 support shocks that support the lift gate. You need to replace them. One or both of them are no longer supporting the door. Your local auto parts store will have them in stock. Compare prices with competitive stores, prices vary depending on where you purchase them from. It't really easy to replace them.

My 2005 Mercury Monterey Van, does not work in any gear. It was working fine when I got off work and parked it. The next morning I put it into reverse and it would not move so I put into drive and the same...

I had the same problem with my van in october. Turns out that water was dripping on the conection where the wiring harness connects to the ECM (passenger side fire wall in the engine compartment). I pulled the ECM dryed the conectors and made a cover to protect the connection. Has worked fine ever since. I think there is a TSB on the issue.
