I have a '99 Toyota Corolla; the daytime running lights are working, but neither headlight works when I manually turn the lights on (and turning the headlights "on" kills the DRLs). Is this a fuse issue?

    thanks--how do i find/check/replace the relay?

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2010

look under hood see a box tat says relay . you can check them but it just be easier to change unless you have a god electrical background they run 7-10 $ a relay

thanks--found the relays, and was hoping to switch the DRL relay in for the headlight relay (to determine if headlight relay is faulty), but i haven't been able to get either relay off. i see how each relay is attached, but there's not much room--any tips on freeing the relays?

update: managed to remove the headlight relay and the DRL relay. DRL looks clean as a whistle, but headlight relay looks somewhat browned, and there's a bit of gooey substance in there--relay grease? i'm going to try to clean the headlight relay out (male and female parts) and then test the DRL relay in there...

Why headlights come on for 10 seconds then go off?

Headlight switch is probably bad if it`s working intermittently. You should have daytime running lights, headlights, and high beams. I`m sure they are all on the same handle. That handle has seen a lot of use. Good news is some of these are available in the aftermarket special order from a company called HELP.

Fitted hid headlights now driving lights dont work

The problem with HID lights is that they require 12 volts or more to work. Daytime running lights on require 6-9 volts from the module. So when the original lights are replaced, the daytime running lights will not supply enough voltage to the HID ballasts to turn them on. The result? No Daytime Running lights. Another alternative is to purchase LED strips and place them around your headlights with a fused accessory power from the ignition switch. When the car is on the strips light up and you have Daytime Running Lights!

I have a 2007 Corolla LE. With my DRL, front lights are working but the rear ones just turned off. I checked all four bulbs, they are working fine when brakes are applied during the day and night when...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) feature only activates the front low beam headlights. The rear parking light are not turned on by the DRL, they only come on in dark conditions or by selecting the light manually.

Shut off daytime running lights?

You can't disable them it's illegal. If you need to shut them off while the engine runs say at drive-in, apply the parking brake (this works on some but not all cars, and don't try driving with parking brake engaged just one click).

Corolla 99 headlights

The car is equipped with Daytime running lights so it will always be on...to turn it off you must go in the hood and on the right side next to the engine air filter and fuse box, there is two smaller fuze boxes and the first one going from down to up direction labels DRL left and DRL right which are two fuses 10A or so take them off and they will not come on!

Daytime Running lights run the battery dead

The Toyota Service Bulletin is 059633, dated March 13, 2003. My 2003 Corolla has the same problem. When the lights were on this morning after a very cold night, I jiggled the headlamp switch and sure enough, the headlights turned on and off. I found that the lights can be kept off if the switch is pushed forward and left in the "high beam" position when the car is off and the weather is expected to be cold. This is easier than pulling the fuse every time, until the switch can be replaced. It worked for me. Hope this helps.

Dash light do not come on but lights do for drl on 2005 chev equinox

DRL (Daytime Running Lights) will come on any time you start your car.
The dash lights do not come on, unless your headlights turn on. Either by a daylight sensor or if you manually turn them on by the switch.
So even though your headlights are on with the DRL, if you notice the tail lights do not come on (just like the dash lights don't).

To test if your dash lights do work, turn your headlight switch on. You should the the tail lights and dash lights come on.

Problem with Automatic Daytime Running Lights

Have you verified both high beams are in working order? DRL's are very funny about not working if one of the lights is burned out. Rememeber that DRL's are only high beams using 20% of the power so just because your normal lights work, it does not mean the high beams are working correctly.
