Sometime you can go outside and try it the next day and it will crank back up but sometimes it takes weeks but eventually it will crank. It wont be gettings any fire one minute and will the next. You just never know. Does anyone know what this problem could be??

Sounds like maybe your ignition control module is going bad, if it only cranks over every once in a while and has a mind of its own.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

89 cougar cranks when key is off

There are 2 connections on the solinoid the main positive feed.(thick wire from battery)which will sometimes have other wires connected with it and a thinner wire(approx. 3mm thick) with a push on lug from the ignition relay.Check that none of those wires are in the wrong place.it will cause what you are describing

Everything has power, but engine will not crank or even click when attempted to start.

could be a bad ground cable .replace battery cables if they havent been change in a while.if it still dont crank .remove starter have it tested.at advance auto parts and auto zone. if starter good.replace starter solenoid or relay.
