When you sat all gone do you mean you can no longer see it on the dip stick? Add a litre of oil immediately and check the dip stick. Once you see oil on the dip stick add just 500ml more an check again, the difference between Min and Max is only 500ml. When topped up inspect the exterior of the transmission casing for obvious oil leaks. When you start the engine is the exhaust smokey blue?...indicative of oil burning. 'Leaks' and 'burning' are the only exit routes for the oil.

I can't imagine that your car is "burning" all that oil in 20 miles. To be sure, remove the spark plugs and look for a lot of ash or really black/oily plugs. I would say more than likely you have an oil leak. Check under your car for a lot of oil streaking. At that rate it should be everywhere underneath.
