N reg ford escort zetec engine coolant leak problem

Hi I have a massive water leak but cant find where its coming from. Its pouring down the engine block but cant pinpoint where as access is very limited. Its at the timing belt end where I think the water pump may be but not sure. Any advice on how to fixed this and where it could be coming from.

I HAVE A 1998 FORD ESCORT 1.6 LX ESTATE WITH A 16V ZETEC ENGINE. THE CAMBELT HAS ONLY DONE 33 THOUSAND MILES BUT HAS BEEN ON FOR 5 YEARS. DO I HAVE TO CHANGE IT SOON.

I would wait for the milage recommendation. (Unless of course you have an oil or coolant leak that is getting on your timing belt) When you do replace it though, have the tensioner and idler pulleys replaced also. The whole deal can be had as a kit.

No hot air lack of coolant and topped up with water and started working again on ford mondeo 18.o zetec. Next few days same thing no sign of leek but last time needed new hose ,as big hole in it wonder if...

If you are losing coolant, more than likely you have a leak somewhere. a small leak can be almost impossioble to find without putting the coolant sytem under pressure. Unfortunately, if you cant find the leak yourself you will probably have to take your vehicle to a shop. A prssure test will probably run you between 25.00 and 40.00 depending on the shop.

Coolant from bottom of engine

the coolant is probably coming from your water pump and leaking down the block try to see if it is wet behind the water pump if so you need to have it changed or one of your hose clamps that connect to your heater core may be loose

FORD FOCUS ORANGE LIGHT (!)

When this light comes on, it'll either have to do with the coolant or the transmission. You said that your car picks up speed very slowly and will shut off on you as well. When this light comes on, it also means you're only running on two of your four cylinders. Your car is cycling this way in order to prevent further damage to your engine / transmission.

Check your coolant system for low coolant, or a potential leak. Transmission will be trickier to tackle.

Have you actually taken it to a Ford dealership as I think this light is only for their system to pick up, or just to local garages like Walmart and Autozone.

Smoke from exhaust

Hi there,
The most common concensus with white smoke is coolant leaking into some where in the combustion chamber as in head gasket, however you have said its not.
turbos unless there is massive internal damage usually blow out black/grey sooty smoke.
Is there bearing noise in the turbo at all? or Loss of boost?
If so it could be early indication of the turbo failing.
I would reccomend goign to a mechanic and having a leak down test perfomormed. Sometimes called a compression test. Or you could buy a decent compression tester and check it yourself.
IT coudl also mean tha tna oil seal is blown or leaking
Check your coolant resivour to see if there is any oil in there and check you oil dipstick to see if it is milky or off colour. Generally if there is either of these two it means that there is some \sort of leak between the two systems Oil and coolant.
Anotehr common problem with these engines is a crack or warped head itself.
However if your sure its not either of the above it could possibly be water getting into the combustion chamber via the injectors as in dirty fuel, however you would notice knocking and predetonation/ pinging surely. and generally the car woudl be running really rough.
Make sure you keep a good eye on the coolant level as if it runs out it will surely kill your turbo friend.
Hope this helps you out there,
Cheers

Engine runs on when driving along

Sounds like the choke is sticking on, that would also explain the heavy fuel consumption
