Your switch is probably loose or malfuntioning. It is activated when the brake lever moves away from it and may have shifted away from its original position.

I like to follow up to see if problem solved. Was it the switch?

haven't checked it out yet. I'll let you know. Most likely look at it this weekend.

The light in the dashboard is staying red for the brakes. Ihave checked the brake , they are released so why is the brake light staying red olease

Because the brake pads have sensors on and when they wear down too far, they activate the brake warning light. Time for new brake pads!

Brake light stays on

The emergency brake cable could have stuck on enough to make the light stay on. Sometimes a little lubricant on the cables might help. Try setting and releasing the emergency brake a couple of times. I have even had to get under the car and tap the brake cable to release it fully.

They are unrelated. Just make sure your brake release is fully relesed. The switch turns the light on if the release isn't against it fully.

I released my brakes and the brake light is still on.

there is a small switch above the brake pedal with a black wire going to it, they stick or the little bracket they set in gets bent, this allows the switch to stay on and in turn the light for the E-Brake stays on, press on the switch and push the little spring loaded plunger in, that light should go out, also make sure the brake pedal is all the way up, if it doesn't want to fully return adjust the park brake cable.
