  • Locate the serpentine belt tensioner on the front of the engine. The belt tensioner on the 2001 Ford Escort is located directly under the power steering pump and above the air conditioner pump. The belt tensioner has a 17 mm bolt head in the center of the pulley.

On the right side of the pulleys, there should be 3 top, middle, and bottom. The middle, smaller one, is the tensioner.

How does a 2001 Ford escort zx2 belt go on

The simple answer...VERY HARD! If you have any knuckles left on your hands when you are finished, you will have to let me know how you did it!

Below is a diagram of the belt routing. It will be much easier for you if you raise and support the vehicle, remove the right front tire, remove the plastic plash shield, and work the belt tensioner from UNDER the car.

    GOOD LUCK!

How do you replace a belt tensioner on a 2000 ford escort zx2?

There are 3 10mm bolts that hold the tensioner assembly to the motor. Remove these 3 bolts and the tensioner should come free from the motor.

I cant figure out how to move belt tensioner on ford escortz2x to allow play to put belt back on

Use a 13 mm wrench to turn the bolt on the tensioner clockwise, like you are trying to tighten the bolt. The arm should swing towards the rear of the car. If it does not, then the tensioner is bad and should be replaced.

Need 2001 ford escort zx2 DOHC engine information, belt diagrams

The tensioner is between the a/c compressor and crank pulley, below the power steering pump. Use a 13 mm wrench to 'tighten' the bolt in the center of the pulley and it'll move to release tension off the belt.

    Serpentine belt replacement

    2.0L Engines
    See Figures 11, 12 and 13
The accessory drive belt for 2.0L engines has no provision for manual belt adjustment, since these engines use an automatic belt tensioner. Drive belt slack is taken up by the automatic tensioner.
Movement of the automatic tensioner assembly during engine operation is not a sign of a malfunctioning tensioner. This movement is the tensioner self-adjusting and is required to maintain constant belt tension.
The belt tensioner has a belt length indicator. If the indicator marks are not between the MIN and MAX marks, the belt must be replaced.
