Crossfire, ashtray Paper receipts got stuck behind the ashtray in my crossfire and is blocking the mechanism to keep the ashtray closed.....I can't remove the ashtray, can you tell me how to remove the ashtray.....I can't believe something so simple has stumped me. Pop out the ashtray. Remove the ashtray assembly (the housing). if you flip the ashtray over and look at the bottom you can see a small spot where a piece of plastic has broken off (this should be obvious). In the ashtray housing there is the latch mechanism with the broken "nipple" probably stuck inside of the mechanism. Get the plastic piece out and discard it. Reinstall the housing only.

Now, get a TINY ( I mean really small, like 4mm long and maybe 1/4-1/2mm diameter) screw handy. Drill a slightly smaller hole right through the ashtray where the piece of plastic was before it broke off. screw in the screw from the TOP of the ashtray so it only pokes out of the bottom 1.5 MMor so. Put the ashtray in. If it still doesn't "catch" screw the screw in a little further so it sticks out the bottom a little more. If it binds you've ******* the screw in too far so back it off. You get the drift.

This takes about 30 minutes. It's hard to explain but once you look at the bottom of the ashtray you'll understand the concept. Hope this helps somebody out there.

Hi. If you lift the gear selector trim, and the tray insert, you will find 2 screws holding it in and then it will come out.

Try to use a good quality "Foam Cleaner" - don't use too much - ; it might be due to dust or dirt. Leave if for a few minutes, and then tap gently on the ashtray cover. Repeat the process if needed, then wipe clean. This may solve the problem, as I had a similar case two days back but with the ashtray of one of the rear doors on my 1999 XJ8.. and this solved it.. also I used same trick to make the top of the ashtray compartment in the center console opens more freely.

Use a vacuum cleaner

There should be a tiny tab at the back of the ashtray that you'll need to pry away from the dash and the ashtray should pop out

this is a delicate job and care should be taken not to damage anything.ther is a woodgrain panel that needs to be removed.in order to do that get in and face the panel.between to the air vent and the panel there is a gap where you can enter a screw driver use a rag to prevent damage.apply force to lift panel.work all around to take panel out.you should de able to get to the ashtray.reverse install panel

The ashtray is removable for ash disposal, pull the edges away from the dash and it shouuld pop out.

behind the glove box is a distabution box it has a door that is controled by vacum also check to see if this is hooked up , and the door is not stuck

it still could be kinda behind ashtray area. if i remember correctly, just left of ashtray attached to small bracket. real bugger to get to
