A RAT ATE A WIRE IN OUR 2001 XJ8. ITS THE ONE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN THE FEXIBLE WRAP COMING OUT FROM THE LEFT COVER WHICH CONNECTS TO A WIRE WHICH GOES THROUGH THE FIREWALL. HOW DO THEY CONNECT?

If you can isolate the damaged section of the wire harness, it can be repaired without removing the entire harness. At the damaged section, pull a single wire up away from the bundle and cut out the damaged section. Strip about a ΒΌ inch of the insulation from both cut ends to expose the copper wire. Get a spool of wire that is the same gage (or larger) and cut about four inches of that and strip the insulation from both ends. Use crimp type wire connectors and attach the new section of wire to the previously cut wire of the harness. Fold the repaired wire out of the way and pull another damaged wire from the harness and repeat the process described here. Continue until all of the damaged wires have been spliced. Fold the repaired splices and wrap several turns of electrical tape to tidy the appearance of the work. Do not do this work until you have disconnected the battery cables and do only one wire at a time to avoid getting a crossed circuit. Good luck.

My drivers seat does not move. I have a 2001 xj8

Check for obstructions (sorry-have to start here)
1) get to a very quiet place
2) trigger the switch to move the seat
2.a) if you hear an electronic single click, the motor is probably burned out
2.b) if you do not hear the click check the fuses
2.b.1) if not fuse, take to dealer for inspection diagnosis...this should be done free of charge

Car cranks won't start

I'd change the plugs as per this link, and swear by an 'internal service' by chemicals as manufactureed by BG Products available on Ebay (The chemicals are for professional use so stick to the instructions). 2001 xj8 stays running after turning the ignition off. The dash gauges stay on after removing the keys

Hello Eric Lovins, Your ignition switch goes directly to your BODY module and the engine control module... (with only a RELAY) in the mix... for "starting purposes only" My experience with Jaguars (magnificent vehicles) has taught me to FIRST SUSPECT RELAYS... (easy access the switches (really hard to reach... If you plan on keeping the car (mine being the last V12 Convertible they built)... I keep spare relays... HOWEVER... Control of the running (or not running) seems to be the Ignition control directly from the steering column to the BCM. Logically your Ignition switch (highly used & difficult to get to) should be most suspect... (there are also high risk of triggering logic circuits with RESULTING AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT (EXPLOSIVE FORCE))... Use of care and full knowledge is advised here...!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/707-Jaguar-XK8-97-05-ignition-lid-trunk-door-lock-locks-cylinder-with-key-HH-/320858591370?hash=item4ab4a9908a:g:q88AAOxy-j9SRa1w&vxp=mtr I have the Factory Service Manuals for MY '95 XJS... They are impressively expensive... but WERE cheaper (NEW, PAPER) than a single "visit" to one of my neighborhood JAGUAR DEALERS... (assuming all thing go well... they usually don't). While the Factory Service Manuals are collectors items themselves you might remain in convinced of their inherent value... you can use the FREE data base at BBB Industries website... (registration required) (also see Jag Lovers site below (very bottom)). I found no Technical Service Bulletins on your ignition lock (a good thing)... but in my car it would be very simple to eliminate DOWNSTREAM electronics... simply by removing the wire from the ignition (the engine should stop) You can then confidently pursue that wire into your ignition lock... My vintage vehicle has no PATS (passive anti-theft system) keys... but I will assure your life will be happier if you make SURE you have all the required keys & fobs BEFORE you get into the lock.
