How do I change my coolant temp sensor on my 2003 Chevy Malibu? My mechanic says this is why I am not able to pass emissions, is this true?

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck

Need more info. I see from the location of your post that you have a 2002 Blazer. Do you mean a Trail Blazer? Chevy didn't make a Blazer in 2002. The ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) is located on the driver's side, front of the engine. (on top) It is between the ECM (engine control module aka the engine computer) and the alternator. You will most likely need to remove the alternator and it's belt to obtain easy access to the sensor. If you need to remove the alternator for access, remember to disconnect the battery's negative terminal first. The sensor has a wiring harness with a connector mounted to the top of it. After you remove the electrical connector, the sensor will screw out using a deep socket and ratchet. You will loose some coolant (antifreeze) during the change, so make sure you have some DexCool antifreeze on hand.

Low coolant light on 2003 Chevy Malibu stays on. Collant level is good.
