Why would my heater blow out cool air when sitting still and then hot air when going down the road and then it's not all that hot

Try flushing or blowing high pressure air through the heater core lines. its sludge build up and need to be flushed through heater core only. check antifreeze fluid level. only put in straight antifreeze, do not mix. most people do not know what mixture should be, so be safe and add straight, it will not hurt it, i run 100% straight antifreeze and never had a problem or worry about it ever freezing and cracking my block, heads or radiator cracking.

You are going to need to use a multimeter and have a professional test the relay voltages. This should probably only take an hour, make sure they have the proper electrical schematic for your vehicle year make and model.

heater core is probably what was changed,..a little radiator under the dash that the hot water runs through and a fan behind it to blow at it thus giving you heat,...pretty much thats it in a nutshell,...sounds like something still leaking under there, (anti-freeze smell),... fill it back up with anti-freeze (non-toxic type so you don't polute) and drive to where you gotta go,....go to your mechanic to find that leak,.good luck, and do a hole shot for me! thanks, cracklin joe

Heater only blows cold air in my Dodge stratus 2.4 but air conditioner works. I plan to change my thermostate going to my motor. I hope there's only one to change, and not another for the heater itself....

Put your gloved hand on the radiator in the front of your car - if it is hot - then the water in your heater core will be hot. If it is hot in the radiator - and not in the heater core - make sure your water level is up to the top in the radiator itself. 2 - make sure the 'heater' switch inside the car is working. 3 - look under the hood for a shut off valve - after market as some people put these on to make the ac colder on cars that begin to go bad.

Chances are you're low on water in the front radiator -

Also a simple check which is cheap should be done by your regular mechanic. If you don't have a professional Mechanic - get one.

Heater bows cold when idling

Hya!
You need to bleed the cooling system.
To do this park on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle.
Have plenty of warm/hot water available, when engine reaches operating temp it may appear to boil over so keep away from coolant filler, top up with warm/hot water and wait as it may bubble over a few times before settling.
Replace cap and hopefully back to normal, Remember your Anti Freeze?
Good luck,
