There could be 3 possibilities. 1. Low fluid.Top off fluid with clutch fluid. Dot 3 brake fluid can be used as well, providing your vehicle has a hydraulic system. If it is a cable clutch, adjust cable. 2. Air in the system. Bleed out the slave cylinder to make sure there is no air in the lines. 3. Clutch needs to be replaced. Good luck.
Sounds like you may be able to adjust the clutch and correct the problem, look at the clutch cable and and adjust it some and see if it helps, if it does then adjust it til you feel it is right.

How do I adjust the clutch? Where is the clutch cable adjustment?
if you follow the clutch through the firewall you should see the cable, on the cable you should see an adjustment, bolt/nut . If there is no cable then it may be a worn out clutch and may need to be rebuilt or replaced, but if it is engaging slowly then something is sticking/not engaging due to fluid or friction. There should be a fill plug, but the bottom line is you will need to get the car lifted up and secured and investigate the engaging process of the transmission.here are some websites:http://www.automotive-clutches.com/basic...http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/bf503...
