Go to Autozone or one of them and get the trouble codes read. Probably something there, maybe a crank or cam position sensor code, or also could be something in the ignition system like a bad coil or the ignition control module. The ICM controls the ignition coils' circuit, both of these two items can go bad and then fail when warmed up. Backfiring, shaking, and coughing kinda sounds like a bad crank sensor, but that's just a guess. Check for trouble codes first.
Which sensor? There are sensors for air, voltage, throttle, crankshaft position and the list could go on for probably an hour. In all the time I had my Tracker, I only needed one sensor replaced and it was the O2 sensor.
You seriously need to give us something to go on for an answer.
Located on the Hub Assembly if there is a Speed Sensor on the rear of a Chevrolet Tracker. Look for the Tone Ring or a Speed Ring. Here is a picture of a Speed Ring on the REAR of a Chevrolet Tracker. You are looking for the Black Sensor that has a Wire coming from it. Normally mounted on the inside of the hub.
If you have doubts about doing this repair I suggest you let and Certified Mechanic (ASE) do the repairs its not and easy task
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Disconnect the electrical connector from the crankshaft position (CKP)
sensor.
Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
Remove the flywheel or the flex plate from the crankshaft.
Remove the 2 bolts (3) and the sensor wire harness clips or shield.
Remove the bolt (4) securing the CKP sensor to the engine block (5).
Remove the CKP sensor (1) and the wire harness (2) from the vehicle.
Inspect the CKP sensor signal rotor for damaged or missing teeth through the
CKP sensor opening.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Do not pinch or damage the
CKP sensor wire harness between the engine block and transmission during the
transmission installation. Observe that the CKP sensor wire harness remains
properly located in the channel provided at the rear of the engine block during
the installation.
Lubricate the CKP sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.
Install the CKP sensor (1) to the engine block (5)
Secure the CKP sensor to the engine block with the bolt (4). Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (54 lb in) .
Secure the sensor wire harness to the engine block with the clips or the
shield and the 2 bolts (3).
