I have a Volkswagen Passat 1998 1.8 T ver since buying the car i have put alot of money towards repair.

First of lot was the head gaskets i soon found this out when whilst driving at a moderate speed and the car all of a sudden pushed forward i loked under the hood of the car and my water was mixed with the oil, the soon over heated and the oi pump blew which i then had replaced.

Afew months later my power steering started to leak and all i could hear was a loud screechin sound evrytime i turned the wheel, i went to go get it checked out and my rack and pinion was not in the best of condition, I removed the rack and pinion with the help of my father, this was not an easy job as we did it using a jack and man power.

Now only a week ago my car was then again on the road the engine all of a sudden started to shake heavily and evrytime i went to accelerate the car would lag and make a loud sound like a diesel tractor (my car is a petrol car) i got it checked out.

To my suprise my transmission mounts were shredded and were not safe so i had that repaird at a price, i thought that this would stop the shaking of the car but the mechanic soon found out taht it didnt so back to the drawing board agian and to my suprise it is the cylinder heads that has the problem i am not to sure whether its the engin coil or the spark plugs or if it could be the actual piston head itself

To the second guy with passed head gasket problem. When a car head gasket fail you change the entire. Why? Because it's cheaper and a lot better. Also have you check the engine mounts not transmission mount but engine mounts. It's amazing how these engine are Push the car. Yes they go out in short time and very important. Really change the engine it's save you a lot of trouble. Get an used engine from junkyard $100 or similar, eBay only $500 bucks. Labor find a cheap mechanic in town. Tell them how really broke you are for 3-500 bucks max. Don't forget to change water pump and belt/timing while installing.

    The abs problem

You'll have brake but abs fubrakenction wont work. Mostly cause by bad/dirty sensor, bad abs module( get one off junk yard). Bad brakes ( lot of reasons)
    Solution
Change brake fluid specially if passed two years.
Check sensor( use scan tool or measure Curently shorts.)
Then check abs module( I would just take a trip to junk yard and change it)

My ABS, brake and oil lights keep coming on at the same time, flashing for a few minutes and then going back off. This happens very randomly, sometimes lasting for seconds, sometimes lasting for up to 20...

Its exactly the abs module! and its keeping the ecu from communicating with the rest of the car, when you remove the module your tac will come back alive and the oil light will turn off. There is way to trick the ecu to thinking the abs module is working but it involves taking out the module, it is fairly simple. My email address is [email protected], email me, and I will give you pictures and instructions on what to do. Its really easy, your abs and break light will go off along with the beeping!

My 2002 vw passat esp light comes on when you turn the engine on

Hi Amanda
I have come up against this problem a few times before.
If the ABS. light is NOT on, and its the ESP light only that is on...your problem may well be a faulty Yaw sensor. This unit is fitted to the floor panel under the rear seat...in the centre. Another problem (although not all that common) is a faulty ESP switch. You should have an OBD code reading done to make sure. If a new YAW sensor must be fitted, the car must be driven with a full steering lock in both directions (left and right) at a speed over 20 Km per hour after fitting. If this is not done the light will remain on, even though it will now drive ok.
As for the price of this unit...Here in Ireland it costs around 140 euro. Hopefully its cheaper where you are. So better to have the codes read first.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Good luck with it

Warning Lights on dash: ABS, BRAKE,STOP,CHECK MANUAL

your abs unit is failing and needs replaced ...the procedure for testing is to backprobe green wire in abs connector and watch voltage wave pattern on a scope ....it will show voltage does not go from 0 to 12 but only 4 to 12 volts that verifies problem is abs controller.

High pitched car sounds

does the noise and light occour at the same time ? another cause of a high pitched noise can be slipping drive belts, alternator, powersteering etc so check them for tightness, condition etc, does the noise happen when car staionary and just rev the engine ? if so i would say it is the drive belt/s, go back to the VW dealer re the ABS light and get them to check the OBD as should be done as part of the service , hope this helps

Oil and brake light flashing

Is the ABS light on as well? If you have ABS and the light is on (like in Guest's comment) is it probably the ABS Control Module. You should have someone read the code to see if you get ABS as one of the issues. Rather than spending a fortune with the dealer or having a non dealer replacement, check out ModuleMasters.com. You take the the unit off (easy and OK to drive without it, you'll just have no
ABS - which you probably don't have now!), mail it out to them, they rebuild it for $200, send it back and you install it, problem solved. They have step by step photo instructions on their site. A mechanic I use for diagnosis and difficult repairs initially wanted to replace the instrument cluster and then talked about replacing it with a new unit. I went online, read about the issue and fixed it myself. I let him know about it and now he has done it three times the same way with great results.

Not sure

Do you get a flashing ABS light or BRAKE light along with the beeps? If so, this is indicative of an ABS failure, which is either a wheel speed sensor or (much more likely) the ABS controller. I've had an ABS/wheel speed sensor fail on my A4 and I had no beeping, but people I know have had the beeps and had to replace or rebuild the ABS module. If you do have this problem, go to www.modulemaster.com and call them - they can rebuild the ABS module for a couple hundred dollars give or take, versus several times that cost for a new one.

If you are only getting the beeping, but not the lights flashing, it could still indicate this failure, but Audi usually has the cars set up to indicate what is wrong by flashing lights as well as the beeping, to help you see what the problem is.
