2001 Volvo S40 Logo
Posted on Aug 31, 2010

I have a 2001 volvo s40. It runsa smoothly most of the 99% of the time but when i come to a stop at a light or stop sign, it stalls out! I hear it could be a ( Idle air controll motor) It starts right back up every time it stalls. At times it also revs up at a stop and wants to send the car forward, and have to slam down on the brake harder so it doesn't move. Hope you can help! Thanks!

Sounds like your ETM - Electronic Throttle Module.

Search for xemodex. He has a direct replacement for 1999-2001 Volvos. I ordered mine from him, and its much better now.

Get a quote from your dealer, then compare the prices.

2006 volvo s40 stalls at idle in first gear

You have lots of codes

Have you not used Google to look them up?

I doubt all the codes are failed system issues

I suggest to anyone coming to this site, to use the
services of a repair shop or buy & learn how to use professional
scan tool software,I fail to see how you can diagnose anything
without it

2001 Volvo S40 misfire

I had a similar problem, I "thought" for sure it was a mis-fire. It turned out to be a problem with the right front axel & bearing assembly needing to be replaced. Once replaced & after a $600-$700 bill, it started running smoothly again. Good luck
