4 year old only 7100 miles on it. I changed battery because it was not being used and was draining. thought it was fixed. completely shut down while going 65 mph. coasted to exit. called AAA. while sitting there waiting we tried it again and it started back up and we drove it home. we are afraid to drive it now for fear that will happen again.

Gas in the tank will, over time, collect a certain amount of water,so if not started/run for at least 20mins.a week,it is not suprising that it died on you...also be aware that makers rotate the tyres 1/4 turn every week in storage, for cars waiting to be sold....flat spots.

Why is my 7100 series 55 a. draining my batteries? Why do the batt.charging leads even have to be hooked up to batts? Stan

Hi,

Please re-read the setup instructions and make sure that you've connected the leads properly. If they've been placed backwards, then this might be the cause of your problem. If those procedures still result in battery drain, then you can take your setup down to homedepot and request that you be able to test a copy of their 7100 in order to see if you receive the same results.

Thank you.

Found no oil in filter during change

Unless you use an anti-drain back oil filter, oil in the filter will drain back to oil pan after sitting for a while. To avoid dry start condition, use anti-drain back style filter. NAPA has them.

My 1999 toyota camry changed alternator twice and my battery is still losing charge what else could cause my battery to lose charge

If your battery is the original one, it is probably getting very weak (that's 13 years old). Batteries last approximately 4 to 6 years then loose potential rapidly from that point on. If that is not the case, then you have a short somewhere in the wiring that is draining the battery.

The battery was replaced in April 2011. I have had vehicle for 7 years and only put about 5k miles a year on car. I have never had any issues with starting the car until I replaced the battery. I have had...

A parasitic drain is basically caused by something being left on, but there is a simple way to find out. Once you have had your battery charged an/or have driven for at least 20 mins, you can condust the following diagnostic:
Making sure all interior lights are off, attach a voltmeter to the battery to monitor the voltage.
Locate the fuse panel.
Remove a fuse. Observe the voltage on voltmeter. If it doesn't change significantly, replace fuse and proceed to next fuse until all fuses are tested. Once you find a fuse that changes the volts by at least 2 volts, you have located the circuit creating the drain. Consult your owner's manual to see what accessories that fuse powers, then you can see if the component is stuck on, left on, or is defective. Good luck.

Battery draining

how old is your battery? if it is more than 4 years old, have it replaced. if the new battery still easily drains, then there is a problem with your alternator. your alternator is not charging your vehicle properly or adequately

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Just hit 180,00mi and battery and brake light diming

Have the battery tested and the alternator tested, the other issue may have a code stored to help point in the right direction, at that many miles things are bound to wear out.

How often to change transmission fluid

I'm sure this depends on the year and model. For example a 2002 Honda CR-V should have the transmission fluid changed at 120,000 miles under normal use but under severe conditions it should be done at 60,000 miles.

Anytime the fluid looks brown or murky rather than red it should be changed.

To change the fluid you must drain it and refill it a total of 4 times, driving a short distance between changes. This is because the oil that comes out of the drain plug is less than half of what is actually in the transmission. You can have Jiffylube do it for about $75 or a Honda dealer for twice that. To do it yourself by draining and refilling 4 times may cost about $50 for the fluid. It is strongly recommended that youj use only Honda ATF purchased from the dealer. Use Dexron only in an emergency until you can get the Honda fluid.
