When removing the fuel tank on a 2006 grand prix, do you have to remove any exhaust pipes to get it down.

  1. Support the exhaust system.
  2. Remove the rubber exhaust pipe hangers in order to allow the exhaust system to drop slightly.

Tailpipe is hanging very low

Hi. Under or near the tailpipe, there are rubber and sometimes steel hangers that are placed onto the sides of the pipe structure. These move with the assembly to provide little flexibility during travel. These hangers also are there to keep the pipe/muffler assembly from dragging or hanging to low. When the hanger assembly becomes unstable or damaged, it will allow the tail pipe assembly to hang low or sometimes drag the ground when you hit a bump. The necessary actions are to raise the vehicle high so that you can inspect the exhaust tail pipe assembly for broken hangers or steel bracing devices. replace any rubber hangers that may be snapped or missing form their respective locations. If you are uncomfortable with raising the vehicle, i would take the unit to a local muffler/exhaust shop for the inspection.

Where do I get rubber graumets for exhaust pipe and muffler?

Hello! I think you are talking about the rubber exhaust hangers - and I apologize if I'm wrong in this. See the picture below for some examples. These types of hangers are used instead of hard welding in a hanger - which tend to break over time, plus they allow for more adjustment capability - key when trying to get exhaust tips to line up correctly in bumper cutouts. :)

If these are indeed what you're looking for - try your local Ford dealership first - they should carry them in stock and the price isn't much. If no luck there, or no dealership close by - you may have luck at your local auto parts store - they have "universal" rubber hangers available as well.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Pontiac Sunfire Exhaust pipe hanging low

Most local muffler shop will inspect the exhaust for you for free and if it's just a broken hanger, they can replace it for around $45.00. You could always go to the auto parts store and buy a new hanger, but your going to have to get under the car and remove any old parts left over from the old hanger and place the new one. Good luck and hope this helps. If you go to Auto Zone they can help you look up all the hangers for that car or any muffler shop as mentioned earlier.

Driving over bumps or on a rough road rattleing sounds from outside almost like a chain rattle

Hi, your exhaust system is loose. Take your vehicle to a local exhaust repair shop and have them inspect your exhaust. Most cars/vans today use rubber "hangers" to suspend the exhaust from the frame of the vehicle. Over time these "hangers" corrode and break. If it is just a bad hanger, your in luck, they only cost between $5-$10 each.

2001 town and country, smell of burnt rubber, no leaking observable; oil level slightly low, due for a change Any ideas?

Yes, get that oil changed ASAP, but the rubber is probably one of the two "doughnut" rubber rings that tie the exhaust system up on hangers.
