Check the wire from the module to the crank sensor. They go bad. Usually from oil leaks. Is it saturated with oil where it goes under the engine? Also check for power and ground on the two wire plug on the drivers side of the module. It isn't the ecm or anything with it. The ignition system on the 3.1 will work with the ecm unplugged. The ignition system is a stand alone system. It sends signals to the ecm for the fuel injection.

Electrical problem cutlass supreme 1994

You are correct in that the AC cooling fan is controlled by the ECM, the problem is the sensor on the "Hot" side of the motor, which should be either right ON the thermostat or very near it. Change this, it should take care of issue.

I have a 1991 cutlass ciera. It ran fine and died while driving. The 6 spark plugs, ignition control module, fuel pump and fuel filter have all been replaced and it still will not stay running. Does anyone...

Thinking crank sensor, don't know if it's a 3.1 or not,3.4?Anyway with the engine running CAREFULLY
tap the crank sensor with a dowel or driveway marker, some long stick. If the sensor is bad the engine
will stumble or quit when you tap it,Same test also will check for broken board in the ecm also.

My 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL just died and quit working, what could be the problem? Have replaced the coil pack.

Does it crank over at all? or just nothing when you turn the key? Do all the electronics still work in car?

My 1993 cutlas supreme stalls randomly while idling or driving , but restart right away

You will need to change the crank position sensor first and see if it corrects the problem. It is located behind the engine near the firewall. It's a bit tricky to get to it, you would need to rotate the engine forward then look under the exhaust manifold and under the cylinder closest to the drivers side. Use a 10 mm deep socket to loosen bolt. After replacement and it is still stalling then you will need to replace the ECM (vehicle computer). If it turns out to be the computer, go to your local junkyard to get an inexpensive replacement Click on the link below to view the CPS, it is around $22

No spark on an 1991 olds ciera. changed the ecm,

Hi, I had the same problem with no spark at my 1993 Cutlass. I changed DIS module, Crank Sensor and checked the coils and still no spark. the problem was at the cable between the Crank sensor and the DIS module that was in short circuit. the cable has two pins at crank Sensor and three at DIS Module. (I believe that the extra PIN is the ground because the cable is shielded). The original cable has no isolation. I bought the cable in a yunk yard and the spark appear again. Check it, because this cable is exposed to high temperatures and oil and for this reasson they lost the isolate.

I have a 98 Chevy Astro but I'm guessing that you may have fried the computer because in the 90's that was how they were stopping car theft if you didn't remove the engine the exact way it was put in it could have fried the Computer (ECM)

Check for fuses/power/ground to the engine computer (or injector drive computer) whatever the case is.

Spark, fuel pump, and starter all are independant of the fuel injection computer.

Either the computer itself has gone bad, or it is not receiving power or ground, or wiring to the injectors might be bad...
