2001 MAzda MPV- Key was stuck in ignition. Would not turn all the way back to remove. I pulled the fuse for the Hazards and WHOLA!! Key turned back and could be removed.! Just to test the problem I put the key back in , started up , pulled up and back a few feet, turned the steering wheel and parked. Key was stuck again. I pulled the fuse and again ... WHOLA! key was released. Now what I need to do is fix the problem or I have to pull a fuse every time I stop the car - ANY ADVICE??

I have the same problem of this for now. I cant pull out the key from the ignition switch. So I tried to take the fuse (located on number 24 it has 15 amps, second one from the bottom right side) and then I can take the key out. But when I put the fuse back in, the problem still there.

Mazda MPV have problems with failing gear shift change assembly ( includes park sensor micro switch)

Pull the fuse for the hazard lights ( 10amp) - if the key comes out, then the switch is defective.

Fix the problem by installing a new change lever assembly - part number for 2000 and 2001 MPV's is LC62-46-10XE with MSRP of $246.90. 2002-2004 would be a LD47-46-10XB with MSRP of $250.40.

Confirmed same issue on 2002 Mazda MPV, issue wasn't the shifter park safety actuator. The power sliding door safety actuator kept the column section of ignition switch from turning to lock truck removal, unplugged this actuator on the I'll left hand side of column to confirm only power sliding door switches stopped working. Cleaned all contacts on doors and latch "B" pillars, plugged actuator back in and customer hasn't had an issue since

Hi! Please try to push the key a little while turning it back. You can use penetrating fluid to loosen the ignition switch for it may be corroded inside. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

I cannot turn my key past ACC setting and turn the car off in my 2002 MPV when the gear shift is in the P position. This also locks out my automatic doors for the middle seats. Is it the igination/key...

There is a small microswitch on the change lever assembly that has failed. This switch is used by the key interlock system to detect shift lever being put into Park position. The microswitch has not been available in the past as an indivfidual part but must be purchased with the entire change lever assembly.

Key is locked in ignition

Make sure the vehical is in park. If it is not, the key will not release. If you did not turn the key down far enough, or turned it too far, the key is in auxillery and needs to be switched to the off position.

Key stuck in the ingition , will only turn back as far as ACC. had to stall the car to shut it off and then disconnect the battery to keep it from draining dead.now how can i get the key out ?

I had a similar problem--I'd try to turn off the car & pull out the key & it would get stuck, like it was locked in. The problem that caused this for me was that I had not put the car fully in park--I had to shift out of park & re-shift to get it to stay in park. Once it was fully in park, the key would unlock. Hope this helps!

Program remote control for mazda mpv 2002

Courtesy of: forums.mazdaworld.org

Try this, it works on several 2002 models:

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Open and close the drivers door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done
