2001 MAzda MPV- Key was stuck in ignition. Would not turn all the way back to remove. I pulled the fuse for the Hazards and WHOLA!! Key turned back and could be removed.! Just to test the problem I put the key back in , started up , pulled up and back a few feet, turned the steering wheel and parked. Key was stuck again. I pulled the fuse and again ... WHOLA! key was released. Now what I need to do is fix the problem or I have to pull a fuse every time I stop the car - ANY ADVICE??
Mazda MPV have problems with failing gear shift change assembly ( includes park sensor micro switch)
Pull the fuse for the hazard lights ( 10amp) - if the key comes out, then the switch is defective.
Fix the problem by installing a new change lever assembly - part number for 2000 and 2001 MPV's is LC62-46-10XE with MSRP of $246.90. 2002-2004 would be a LD47-46-10XB with MSRP of $250.40.
Confirmed same issue on 2002 Mazda MPV, issue wasn't the shifter park safety actuator. The power sliding door safety actuator kept the column section of ignition switch from turning to lock truck removal, unplugged this actuator on the I'll left hand side of column to confirm only power sliding door switches stopped working. Cleaned all contacts on doors and latch "B" pillars, plugged actuator back in and customer hasn't had an issue since
