You could have received bad fuel or you have a hole in the venting lines. Also put on a locking gascap in case of vandalism. Its obvious this is not good for the system.

You should first check the venting lines at a Repair shop with a "smoke machine". This will show how well the fuel system is sealed. If they find a problem have them repair it because they can recheck it.

The gas tank should be cleaned or replaced. You can use an aftermarket tank of the same capacity. I do not know if the vehicle is operated around salted roads or on the Coast. But it is a 12 year old vehicle and gas costs too much to lose on a bad tank. There should be a high pressure stainless line that can fail too. It should be inspected with the tank.

Keep a clean filter in it. I've rebuilt carburetors on older models that had sand throughout. Hopefully the old filter protected the engine from the sand.

Testimonial: "Thanks info was very helpful. I will replace gas cap and have tank cleaned or replaced. "

How do i replace a fuel filter in a 2014 ford fusion ? my x put sand down my gas tank

Oh boy this is a big problem because it's not the gas filter by the rear wheel it's the screen inside the gas tank attached to the pump sender housing and sand will not come through it at least I don't think so but if it is you'll know take out the filter and tilt it backwards if sand comes out the you will have to keep changing it but I really think it's the fuel pump screen and the tank has to be dropped and cleaned out and if your a woman and a guy did this to you get another to do a number if you can prove this then the police and small claims court for damages $5000,00 in NYC $3000.00 or more somewhere else but this is a criminal offense and will cause a real lot of trouble for this person then after it's finished let it be dude on dude good luck whoever you are

Had bodywork done and feel that sanding dust may have gotten into the fuel line. Could this have happened. Truck dies at stops

No, and even if it somehow did get dust into the fuel system, a simple change of the fuel filter should remedy the issue.

Do i have to buy another fuel pump for my car because my 4year old put sand in my gas tank

Most likely, but maybe not. There is usually a filter screen on the input of the pump that can be changed. BUT, if you want to be safe, drop the tank and have it cleaned thoroughly, replace the fuel pump and fuel filter if you have one, have the fuel lines disconnected and purged, and pray that you aren't going to need injectors or worse, a new engine if the sand got that far.

How many fuel filters are located on a 93 Mustang

there is one main filter that is changed regularly, there is one in the fuel tank located on the fuel pickup tube that is called a sock. this is usually only replaced when the pump is replaced or if something was put in the tank like sand sugar or diesel.

I have a 2000 Chevy Sonoma ZR72 what would cause

Clogged fuel filter or trash, IE; Sand , in the fuel tank. Check filter first. Back wash old filter into a rag and see what comes out.. If you see or feel fine grit, then a gas station gave you a load of sand and you will have to drop the tank and clean it out, thoroughly. If you continue to shut of and restart to drive, then the sand will work its way through the filter sock in the tank and you will be buying a new fuel; pump. $300.00. Been there, done that.....

Ran out of gas and now got sand in fuel rail

The two are not likely to be related. The only way sand can get to the fuel rail is if the filter has collapsed or was removed. The sand likely got there during a previous repair...

Jerking motion (missing)

Hi, first thing to do check your spark plus if they are not dirty or the gud its to open. If they are fine check the leads or your pack coil. You can also check your fuel filter. Remove it and clean it first by blowing it from one side and see if is there sand coming with out with fuel.

Fuel tank overflow with high ambien temperater

common problem on these vans is a clogged EVAP Cannister... they clog full of very fine sand... Pull out the cannister (close to the fuel tank) carefully pry it open.. if it's full of sand, replace it... along with the pre-filter if it has one of those.

I have changed everything under the hood, maf sensor, coil packs, spark plgs, egr valve, h2o sensors, fuel filter and still have a miss. When I changed the fuel filter I found lots of sand in the filter,...

as long as the sand was caught in the filter, and u replaced the filter..it shouldn't. it could be something as small as a collapsed or dry-rotted vaccuum hose, or as big as a bad head gasket. I would run down all of my vaccuum lines and check them first, and if they all are ok, i would take it in and have a compression test done.
