Truck has loss of power and backfires under the hood

The MAF is in the flex hose that delivers air to the engine, it has a 5 or 6 wire connector going to it.

My truck 1988 f350 w/ 460 does the same thing and the solution was simple for me, Check your vacuum lines and vacuum plugs when my truck backfires it blows the vacuum plugs off and then it runs poor untill I re-plug them. Hope this helps

Replaced a spark plug wire that was arcing to fix an unrelated problem and the car drove fine until you put it under heavy acceleration. It would backfire and lose all power until u let off the gas. A...

Check the oil, the low oil sensor will disable the ignition if more than a quart low. Next change the air filter, a dirty air filter can put the MAF ( mass airflow) sensor out range. Next change the fuel filter. A cough or back fire is an indication of fuel starvation. Always do the cheapest fixes first. Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history before buying parts you don't need.

Loss of power when you first acelerate

Not sure what itnighters are, sorry.

You seem to be describing a flat spot - a hesitation during initial acceleration that is commonly caused by either insufficient spark power or the fuel system being slow to adjust to the new requirements.

A backfire is an explosion in the exhaust system and I wonder if you really meant a spit-back (through the intake), which is common with a fuelling caused flat spot?

Replacing the spark plugs is merely half the job and testing the spark power is the other half...

I suggest you check the fuel pressures and pressure regulator function and the injector spray patterns. Only if all tests good it could be worth testing the oxygen sensor...

The vehicle was put on a diagnostic machine for loss of power and it coded the o2 sensor, and the mass air flow, and EGR valve. We put a new o2 sensor in and cleaned the mass air flow. It ran, but no...

no-- but could mean that the O2 sensor is not correct
it is a common misconception that all of the oxygen sensor are the same
the fact is that even they are known a oxygen sensors there are 2 completely different units
the sensor in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter is in fact a heated oxygen sensor and it's function is to report the exhaust composition so that the ecm can adjust the air/fuel mixture
the other is an o2 sensor located after the cat converter and fine tunes the system after the cat converter has done it's job
if the cat converter is faulty , the o2 sensor will try to have the ECM correct the mixture
the loss of power if it is a cat converter comes from a blocked exhaust system and that is most evident at high rpms or under power

Already had a new throttle body put in a little over a year ago and it has started messing up again but now my engine sounds bad. It is like it has lack of fuel. we are 4 hours away from home and were...

There are two things that can cause similar symptoms to the TPS, ( throttle position sensor ),

1. The oxygen sensor, ( front, before catalytic converter ). If this part is bad it will prevent the computer from being able to determine the proper fuel-air mix ratio.

2. Mass airflow sensor. If this part is bad it will cause incorrect information to the computer as well.
The result is varying levels of, loss of power. ( sometimes you can unplug the mass airflow sensor to see if the engine runs smoother.
You really shouldn't, but, some will drive while the sensor is unpluged and it will eventually damage other sensors as well as cause ill effects to the catalytic converter.

I hope this helps you.

Range rover vouge back fireing on lpg and petrol with power loss

check fuel pressure. backfire tends to indicate a LEAN (not enough) fuel condition. This in turn can be caused by: a large air/vacuum leak, a restricted fuel supply, a clogged fuel pickup screen, a weak or leaking pressure regulator, O2 sensor(s) failures causing a "commanded rich" output to PCM - PCM then delivers a lean signal, a faulty mass airflow signal, a defective air temp sensor, a bad coolant temp sensor, crappy secondary ignition components.

While driving engine will lose power and start backfiring shut off for a while, restart and engine runs fine, replaced fuel filter two weeks ago, also had oxygen sensor and fuel level sensor replaced two...

usally back firing and no codes is a bad fuel pump or clogged pickup screen which is on the fuel pump.. you can get alge from the blended gasoline. see if you can run a prssure gauge to the out side of the hood and drive the truck, when the problems starts to happen look at the pressure. we had a k5 blazer do something similar. it would have 57 psi at start up and about 10 miles into dribving it we would have loss of power adn backfiring through the trottle body. feul pressure would drop to 17 psi. our pick screen was full of black alge from water in the gas.

My 1997 expedition has no power to move drive fast. It dfives very slow not enough power. It back fires.

It sounds to me that you've been running very rich (which explains the backfiring) for awhile. This is usually caused by bad oxygen or mass airflow sensors. Over time, the rich condition fouls the spark plugs, which further harms power. The excess carbon in the exhaust as a result will clog the catalytic converters and choke the engine. This will cause you to have drastic power loss and backfiring.
