The module is located under the coils.

Testimonial: "Thank you so much. The only thing I could find was it was under the distributor and I don't have that and was totally lost...Again thanks a million..."

1996 Dodge Dakota,3.9,V6, ignition coil wiring diagram

I think yours has an ignition module which can be checked at parts store. Could also be bad coil. If you must have wiring diagram, get shop manual.

I have a 1992 olds achieva thats not throwing any spark/firing.

You may need a shop manual to get the test procedures.
You would need to know if you are getting power to the pink black wire going to the module, and a signal from the crank sensor.
The computer controls timing.

What controls the fire to the coil

The ignition system is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on all engines.
Here is a generic breakdown of most ignition systems incorporated after 1996;

The system uses separate ignition coils for each cylinder. The one-piece coil bolts directly to the cylinder head. Rubber boots seal the secondary terminal ends of the coils to the top of all 6 spark plugs. A separate electrical connector is used for each coil.
Because of coil design, spark plug cables (secondary cables) and a distributor are not used.
Two knock sensors (one for each cylinder bank) are used to help control spark knock.
The Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay provides battery voltage to each ignition coil.
The ignition system consists of:
  • Spark Plugs
  • Separate Ignition Coils
  • Knock Sensors
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
  • Also to be considered part of the ignition system are certain inputs from the Crankshaft Position, Camshaft Position, Throttle Position, 2 knock and MAP Sensors

1996 Achieva with Quad 4 engine, drives for about 10 miles then just shuts off, after it sits about 30 minutes it will fire right up and go for short distance then does it again. I have replaced cracked...

Have you checked the fuel pressure when the car quits on you.It sounds like a fuel pump that is overheating and binding up when it gets really hot. Then after cooling it will work till it heats up again. Good luck

How to fix a coail pack on a 1987 Pontiac 6000?

Coil packs are replaced not repaired if found to be defective. ---prev.gif next.gif DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION SYSTEMS Starting in 1987, some models came with engines equipped with a Computer Controlled Coil Ignition (C3I) or Distributorless Ignition System (DIS). Fig. 2: Electrical schematic on C3I ignition system 86812031.gif Both DIS and C3I system consists of the coil pack, ignition module, crankshaft sensor, interrupter rings and ignition control module (ICM). All components are serviced as complete assemblies, although individual coils are available for Type 2 coil packs. Since the ICM controls the ignition timing, no timing adjustments are necessary or possible. 1996 Achieve runs sluggish up hills, check engine light blinks, poor gas mileage, smells of gas, wants to stall out, has stalled out, will only restart if sat for about 20 minutes, runs fine when cold out....

When the check engine light flashes it means there is a misfire in the ignition system.Unfortunately you replaced the ignition control module first which is the more expensive instead of checking the plugs, plug wires ,and coils first. If you have an ohm meter then ohm the plug wires.Check the coils and make sure they are not corroded on the towers.Check the plugs and make sure there is no carbon tracking on them. These will look like little lighting bolts and if you try to rub it off it will not come off. What they are is hair line cracks.Hope this helps.Good luck.
