Suspension The independent front suspension (IFS) system is composed of a two-piece front driving axle, two front coil springs (5310) and two radius arms. The front driving axle consists of two independent axle arms. One end of each axle arm is anchored to the frame (5005). The other end of each axle arm is supported by the front coil springs and radius arm.

I have a problem and think I've got it narrowed down to the splines in the front axel. A friend said Ford used a hard plastic kind of spline which commonly strips out . I am going to try warren manual...

It doesn't surprise me that plastic was used in the 1997 Ford Ranger, as lots of things have gone in that direction especially in the 1990s.
I wish you luck in your repair.

2001 Ford Ranger, 4wd doesn't work. The 4wd light on dash flashes 10 times about every two minutes.

There is obviously an issue with the transfer case. I doubt anything mechanical is wrong. Take it to your nearest autozone they can scan the code and give you a general idea of what to look for. 99.9% of the time they can help point you in the right direction. I had a smiliar problem with my exploder but mine was simply a shorted wire in the 4x4 high low selector switch assembly.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I would like to know how to lubricate the suspension.

nothing to lubricate suspension wise. there are chassis points that can be lubed. look for grease nipples in the undercarriage, front end mostly
