1995 Ford 3rd Brake Light inop. Q is: What type bulb is used in the 95 Explorer 3rd brake light? Opening up the light leads me to believe it's a gas tube. Later model Explorers Look to be LED - Right now I'm feeling about as dumb as can be - Ford dealer got over $600 for install that did not work! Also now being told ''lamp ballast'' is defective ($300++ to buy and install)

get a manuel from an auto parts store. in this manuel it will have etm(electrical troubleshooting manuel) it shows the brake lights and wires colors of wires. trace the wire color from the fuse using the diagram. purchase a test light from wal mart to see if your wire has power. if it does there may be a bad connection or component but hte etm shoud show you what components are on the circuit.any questions email me at [email protected]

There should be some adjustment on it, if not replace it, it's about a $12 item.

I had a similar problem like this with my 98 explorer once; neither brake lights worked and the top one stayed on very dimly at all times. It turns out both of my brake lights went bad at exactly the same time, which for some reason made the top light stay on. Felt like an idiot, but all I needed to do was change the bulbs.

Hello. The symptoms you are describing are likely due to a poor ground. Temporarily install a new ground wire by securing a piece of copper wire to the frame with a self tapping screw. Use this ground wire along with the hot wire to see if each of these lights works. If it does, trace the ground wire back to the frame, unscrew it and clean up the metal with emery cloth so you reestablish a good ground.
