The wiper cam actuator the cam is made to prevent damage to the
motor by using a spring to allow it to slip if the wipers are stuck or frozen
to the wind shield the spring stretching causes the wipers to stop in the
middle of the window not hard to replace but does require you to do a timing
procedure it should come in the box if not ill give you the basics get the new
part remove both wiper arms careful the windshield is under the black plastic
and I've seen other break the windshield taking the wiper arms off a battery
post puller is the best way to remove , remove the cowl plastic piece you will
see the cam gold/silver in color remove the one torx head screw then install
new one rotate clockwise 2 times should spin freely then spin counter clockwise
should stop look at where it is touching this area should have a 4mm gap the
wiper motor has to be in the intermittent position prior to this turn key on
put wipers in intermittent let motor spin then when it stops shut the key off
then install cam.

Remove the LH linkage assembly.Remove the screw from the wiper motor.
Pull the wiper motor free from the slots of the bracket.Disconnect
the RH linkage assembly from the wiper motor with the J 39232 .Disconnect the
electrical connector from the wiper motor.
Installation Procedure:Tools Required:J 39529 Wiper Linkage Installer
Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.Connect the RH
linkage assembly to the wiper motor with the J 39529 .
Important: When installing the wiper motor, be sure that the crank
arm is in the innerwipe position. The crank arm drive pin must be engaged in
the cam pocket.
Install the wiper
motor with two locator pads pressed into the slots of the bracket.
Notice: Use the
correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the
correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or
fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are
identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

The wiper motor on a Volkswagen is located directly underneath the plastic cowl cover. The cowl cover is located directly below the windshield.
Begin by removing the wiper arms by prying off the covers at the base of the arms and removing the nuts that secure the arms to the drive shafts. Label the passenger and driver arms so they can be installed in the same positions. They are not interchangeable. Remove the rubber hood to cowl weather seal. Unscrew the plastic fasteners from the driver's side of the cowl cover, then remove this half of the cover. Remove the fasteners from the passenger's side cowl cover and remove this half of the cover. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor wiring harness by separating the plastic wiring connector. Remove the three bolts that secure the wiper motor to the vehicle's body. Pull the motor slightly away from the body, then remove the nut that connects the motor shaft to wiper linkage. Remove the motor.
Place the new wiper motor into position in the cowl and reconnect it to the wiper arm linkage. Then reinstall the three retaining bolts. Reconnect the plastic wiring connector to the wiper motor wiring harness. Place the cowl covers into position below the windshield and reinstall the plastic fasteners that retain them. Reinstall the rubber hood to the cowl weather seal. Reinstall the wiper arms in the same position you removed them from, along with the wiper arm retaining nuts and lower wiper arm covers. Turn the windshield wipers on and test for proper operation. If the wiper blades slap against the bodywork surrounding the windshield, loosen the nuts that connect the wiper arms to the shafts and adjust.
