Look at the hood alignment to make sure it's aligned properly and allowing the latch to catch. If the hood is fine you'll need to adjust the latch. Start by lubricating the latch mechanism so that it moves freely. Many times a hood will fail to latch properly because the latch itself isn't moving freely. Next check the area where the hood latches to the body and see if it's coming up short. If so manually adjust the latch until it's in proper position to grab and hold.

Try adjusting the loop that the catch locks onto, two bolts or screws and move up or down untill it works, then re-tighten. Allso give it some old fashioned grease.

My hood safety latch want release the hood so it can open. How can I get around this

You will need to use a long tool and some spray lube to get it to pop. Have some one hold up on the interior latch while you try 'slapping down' on the front of the hood with your hands and if that doesn't work, try the spray through the grill area. Use the long tool with a flashlight to try pushing the latch from the grill area. Good luck!

Cannot access door latch assembly 2009 JEEP LIBERTY

all this is covered in the FSM. step by step. under body or doors.
2nd best is alldata.com
what door? you never said and steps can very by body options.
name the door,
i guess the latch is bad?
here are the words, for door lock motor.
lots of steps. my wild guess , it the door cover is off.
and the plastic film removed
and you get stuck here,
  1. Remove the tape covering the access hole on the carrier plate and discard. Access the window regulator liftplate through the hole in the carrier plate.
  2. Push down the door glass (1) and use a slotted screwdriver to release the tab on the window regulator liftplate (2). Lift the glass up and secure to the header.
  3. Remove the three screws (2) securing the door latch to the door shut face.
  4. Remove the one screw (1) attaching the latch bracket to the door shut face.
  5. Disconnect and remove the electrical connector (1) from the door (4).
  6. Remove the 10 screws (3) from the carrier plate (2).
  7. Disconnect the outside mirror electrical connector.
  8. Remove the carrier plate (2) from the door (4). end

once carrier is out there is chapter on that , disassebly

really, buy the FSM
or log in to alldata.com
and avoid making wrong moves, or getting hurt.

My 2005 jeep liberty front hood will not close all the way because of the latch. My fingers can run across the bottom of the hood and I don't need the latch release inside the jeep to loosen the hood.

Try spraying the latch mechanism with WD40 or other good solvent and working it manually by hand till it frees up. Likely it's rusted and binding. Right now, it's probably stuck in the open position.

2001 Jeep Cherokee: Passanger side hood latch is stuck

try pushing down on that side of the hood when you pull the lever (takes 2 people, or 1 with 4 9ft long arms). Keep holding the lever while you release the center latch and lift the hood. I can't promise it'll work, but it usually does. sometimes you have to play with it a while.

Jeep Liberty 2005 Cannot shut tailgate window......

Hi all,

I had the same problem onmy dad's Jeep KJ (Cherokee/Liberty) so i went ahead and unbolted the tailgate handle;

First you need to take off the plastic inner tailgate cover (doh), then carefully pry away the the black liner and you'll see 2x 10mm hex nuts, unscrew both. Then on the latch outer side of the tailgate remove the upper 2 torx screws, then loosen one of the clamps of the connecting rod between latch and handle.
While pulling out on the handle (needed to clear the mechanism from the sheetmetal) you'll be able to carefully remove the complete doorhandle assembly.
There's still one wireloom attached to the handle, this is the culprit, It's the little actuator switch that's need liberal amounts of lubricant such as WD40 or similar.
I actually removed the switch and pushed it several times to full stroke after i lubricated it, then reconnected it and presto! The rear window unlocked every single time by means of the doorhandle instead of using the wireless remote...

Easy fix, done in half an hour. Saved you $ 300 on parts and labour

Good luck!
