Brake cables are probably seized as they do when not used regularly. You have to disconnect them and replace with new ones which requires removal of both rear wheels.Go here for the procedure.

Normally when you put the car in gear, the emergency brake releases automatically.

How can i release my emergency brake

Never heard of a parking brake automatically engaging. It does suffer with sticking brake cables. Are you sure the driver didn't step on the parking brake pedal? It is what I would have done and I have practiced it a number of times! You press the pedal a second time to release it. It is a known issue that the cable sticks, especially if the parking brake is never used.

Reset tranmission

There is another problem. It should not be stuck from a simple trans check. Make sure your emergency brake is off and not stuck on. This happens if you dont use emergency brake often.

Emergency lever switch is stuck

More likely it's the adjustable switch under your brake pedal if your brake lights won't turn off. Emergency brake lever does not turn your brake lights on at all. If you are referring to your brake light on the dash, sometimes that is also an indication that your brake fluid is low. Emergency lever switch going bad is very rare.

How do u disconnect the emergency brake on a 1987 dodge dakota 4x4

It depends on where the cable is stuck.
You can disconnect it at the connection points, you have a front, center, and two rear cables. But if the cable is stuck at one of the brake drums, disconnecting it at the front or center connector won't free up the brake shoes.

Emergency break stuck- how to realease it?

The emergency brake does not affect the lighting or lights on your plates. This is an entirely different problem going on. On some vehicles, when you start them and put them in reverse the emergency brake pops out automatically. If this doesn't work, you will have to manually unlock the mechanism. As for the lights, the problem may be in your switch.

Emergency brake stuck, pedal release broken

What happens is the brake cables rust inside the cable sheath and then they won't slide easily. There's no good fix for this other than replacement. It's not easy to even find where they are stuck. It might be possible to find the end of the cables at the back wheels and pull the cables back---to release the tension
