This car is a 1.6 16v renault megane, the bonnet release lever does not open the bonnet, the cable appears to have stretched or snapped, how can i get in the bonnet? thanks

its easier to take off the belly plate and open bonnet catch with a screw driver from the bottom

cable has un-clipped at ratchet in front of battery. must remover right front grill clips in place then work fingers in gap feel cable and pull gently till unlocks. once bonnet is open clip ratchet together and secure with tie strap

generally, cable will not break.It might be cable endlock or lever or distrubed cable clamping.see from front under bonnet below the upper panel you will find bannet cable wire going to bannet lock, try n pull it. or pull the locking lever. it will definitely open

release the cable from the lever and using a pair of plies pull on the cable to release the hood replace the cable when you get it opened. hope this helps

if the bonnets cable is not broken wiggle one corner of the bonnet and see if it will release the catch. You may have to push on the corner very hard rapidly even on both sides if one side does nbot work for you. I find that to work on most cars. The problem for most cars that the hood or bonnet adjusters are worn and bind the opening process

Get a second person to pull bonnet catch and you push up and down on the bonnet whilst catch is being pulled. 1, cable possibly stretched, 2, look at bonnet catch under the coloum to see if wire is attached, 3, try and lie under car and look up the back of the bulkhead to see the catch and release it manually. there is a way , if you get under the front of your car . lie on the floor and try to reach the the end of the snapped cable this some plyers and pull it it will unlock it

when you say the bonnet has been pushed in do you mean like in a traffic accident if this is the case then is your grill damaged,the reason i say this is the only way you are going to open your bonnet is through your grill so a replacement grill will be needed.if you take this course of action,take a torch and look up under the bonnet you will se the bonnet realease at the very front of your bonnet it will have the bonnet realease cable attached you might need help at this stage,get a friend to push down on your bonnet,put your hand in and push or pull the lever until it releases as this works on a hook system and with the damage it might need a pretty stronge screwdriver to force it always remember the radiator is very easly damaged and very costly to replace .Hope this will help you get your bonnet open .adrian

There are two release catches about 15" to the right and left of the centre safety catch. Roughly at each end of the top of the radiator.

The bonnet release cable goes first to the right hand one then there is a wire from that to the left, in a daisy chain way. They are typically French, cables fit into plastic levers ( a bit like bike brakes) not metal which break easily. replacements are not cheap. You need to be able to pull the cable to both catches to get the bonnet up. I managed to do this from underneath. In my case the, left hand one was broken and right hand one was working, but the getting it open broke the bit that that pulls the left. Managed to away with buying just one new catch as they are identical, swopping the right partly broken one over to the left side.
