The best way to reset it is with a scan tool.
disconnecting the battery for one minute will also remove the code.BUT
if your smog test uses an OBD scan as part of the process, then there will be a problem, because the monitors will not have been set,as they are reset if the battery is disconnected..
most tests allow only one monitor missing, and not the catalyst .
A drive cycle will have to be done to set the monitors.
Typically cold start coolant temp less than 50F,idle for 2 minutes no air condition, accelerate at half throttle to 50mph then drive 3 minutes with a/c on at 50mph steady.decelerate to 10mph without using brakes..Accelerate to 60mph and drive for 5 minutes at steady speed without a/c
deccelerate without braking and drive for 1 minute at 40mph.
stop the car ,use braking.
Shut off the car and add 4 gallons of gas.do not shut off the car for more than 5 minutes.
drive in 3rd gear or overdrive off with rpm 3000 for 1 minute.
decelerate to 10mph.without braking
accelerate to 40 mph in 4th gear.,or overdrive on
decelerate without braking to 10mph.
test complete.
this will set the o2 sensor heater ,o2 sensor, catalyst, evap purge.and the other monitors.

How does o2 sensore heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2 effect the car when check engine light soon is on?

It just means it will take longer for the sensor to get up to temp for optimal performance, also check engine light on is a emmisions failure if you in a place that smog tests are required. you will need to replace sensor before test

What is a bank sensor for a honda civic ls 04

O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 should actually be read as: O2 sensor, bank 1, sensor 1. Meaning the first oxygen sensor (O2 sensor #1) on cylinder bank #1 (it's a Honda inline 4 -cylinder engine, so it only has one bank of cylinders; a V6 or V8 engine would have tow banks arranged in a V shape) needs to be replaced. The oxygen sensor will be threaded into the exhaust near where the manifold (or possibly threaded in at the manifold itself) with some wires coming out of it. In the photo, the O2 sensor is labelled as the air/fuel ratio sensor. 5478b94e-7fcc-4726-9bba-653a172e5a92.jpg

Trying to get my 1997 honda civic smogged. Replaced the knock sensor about 800 miles ago. No check engine light is on. When I try to smog it i have three things not ready - the catalyst, the evap, and...

As a rule it takes about 50 miles for the computer to finish it's readiness tests. Some take longer so I would drive it about 75 miles and then check.

Honda 1997 civic ex check engine light is on message: bank 1 sensor 2; heater circuit malfunction

that is the sensor that is behind the catalytic converter, it just measures effiicency of the cat itself-the sensor has a wire that pre-heats the sensor so that it goes 'on line' sooner, it has failed or is failing-the easiest thing to do is replace the O2 sensor, or you could ignore it until you have to go through emissions, and replace it a few days prior to inspection-but if you do that, and something else malfunctions that your check engine light would warn you about, you wouldn't know it-so it's probably just best to replace it when you can, in the near future. It will not affect at all how the car runs though.

Hi, I need to take my 2001 Mazda 626 4cyln for SMOG check in CA. But its check engine light is on, diagnosed as code P0421. Appreciate your help to fix this problem, or just to pass the check. Thank you.

CODE P0421. DEFINITION-CATALYST EFFICIENCY LOW-BANK 1. EXPLANATION-THE OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ABILITY TO STORE OXYGEN. PROBLEM CAUSES- 1. CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE (FAILURE POSSIBLY DUE TO #2,3, OR 4) 2. ENGINE MISFIRE OR RUNNING CONDITION. 3. LARGE VACCUM LEAK 4. ENGINE OIL LEAKAGE INTO EXHAUST-VALVE GUIDE SEALS, PISTON RINGS. THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THE WARM UP CATALYST EFFICIENCY FOR BANK 1 IS BELOW TRESHOLD FOR THE CURRENT ENGINE OPERATING CONDITION. (BANK 1 IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION OF CYLINDER #1, WHILE BANK 2 IDENTIFIES THE CYLINDERS ON THE OPPOSITE BANK).

replace O2 sensors, or your Catalytic Converter.

Failed Smog Test - 4 codes for 2001 Isuzu Rodeo

Tune it up and replace the 02 sensor that keeps setting the codes bank 2 sensor 1. Have your oil and filter changed right before you go for a retest to. That will clear up 3 codes P0300, 0155 and 0154. You might have to replace the fuel sending unit to get rid of P0463 but if the gauge works OK I'd leave it alone.
