Maybe not, most likely a coil pack,or plugs,Do a tune up,and as you are doing it,check the spark plug firing on all the spark plugs,if one is not firing, replace that coil pack.I would go ahead and do a tune up,plugs, wires, and air filter, and the fuel filter, this will most likely fix the problem.

Fuel pump maybe yes but check for overheating - could be preignition?
- just general weak mixture symptoms, could be dirty fuel system (pipes,filters,injectors/jets) clogged pick up pipe in fuel tank. Worn sparkplugs even, Worn distributor / rotor (if applicable) Contaminated fuel? HT-leads? Ignition coil? ignition Timing badly out?

if you go through all that I reckon it will be running good again.

Xr6 2004 5speed turbo when u put foot down it starts missing any one know how to fix they tell me it's a common problem with this ba model

A fouled or worn plug (spark gap too big) can do that. Also a bad ignition wire can do that. These are especially suspect if it is a particular cylinder that is missing. You may be able to ID it if you get a check engine light and the code is misfire cyl no. 3 or something like that. If it gets worse in rainy / damp weather, suspect a coil pack, spark plug boot or spark plug wire getting wet. If it is not a specific cylinder it may be a clogged fuel filter causing insufficient fuel pressure during high demand such as acceleration or pulling a hill.

Throttle position sensor

Check the fuel pressure under load and also have the exhaust system checked for excessive back pressure.

Prado jerking while going up hill or jerking when accelerating

Hi,
When was the last tune-up done? Should be done every 30-45KM, or depending on what your owner's manual maintenance book states.
1. Spark plugs
2. Spark plug wires
3. Fuel Filter
4. Air filter
5. Oxygen Sensor

If these have recently been replaced then do you have Check Engine Light (CEL)? If so, you'll need to get that checked by a mechanic.

When going up hills is the engine bucking and missing? Also for the hard start warm problem, check the fuel pressure regulator for leaks into the vac line.

Missing and backfiring during acceleration and climbing hills.

Could be vapor lock in the fuel system. Next time it does this, stop and try removing the fuel filler cap... Hope this helps...;-)

Hesitation , skipping, engine cuts out when accelerating

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?
