It depends on what's wrong with it . Does your vehicle have any other buttons on the steering wheel ? cruise control , radio control etc... Is the air bag light lit on the instrument cluster ? A common part that fails in all make an model vehicles is the clock spring . It's located under the steering wheel on top of the steering column . If any other buttons on the steering wheel aren't working an the air bag light is lit more then likely the clock spring is bad .Watch this video . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMbGhxdXrUc
If not this could be the horn relay , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDn4ZKJsdpY
Testing electrical circuits are required to find the problem .
The clock spring inside steering column ,under the steering wheel . Is the air bag light lit on the instrument cluster as well ? What make , model and year vehicle . How cars clock spring works
Is the air bag symbol lit on the instrument cluster ? If so your problem is with the clock spring inside the steering column . I suggest you take this to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer > If you don't know about disabling the air bag system before messing with the cruise control buttons .You can accidentally deploy the air bag in the steering wheel ,an people have been killed messing with what they don't know about . I been fixing vehicles for over thirty years ,an I work for Chevy . I have not seen wires come loose .Those buttons receive voltage from the BCM - body control module , when you use those buttons they input to same BCM . Myself I would hook up tech 2 scan tool an check for those inputs to the BCM .
Do you have an airbag light lit ? Are your cruise control buttons on the steering wheel . If so the clock spring could have an open circuit. A clock spring is a part inside the steering column , under the steering wheel . Check out this video on clock spring . https://youtu.be/4jv2DW39drA if no airbag light ,then probably not this part.
Okay, 2016 Nissan Pathfinder SV, steering wheel controls do not work. Any of them, include cruise control, handsfree cell, or button for vehicle settings, owners settings, etc
The ABS is lit up on my dashboard nothing else. Always on. Now what? Just got the Pathfinder 9 months ago. Stuck. Mm mmm
Cruise controls are primarily electronic, yet do operate off vacuum line(s) as well. I had this situation on a 2000 Subaru legacy wagon.. where the airbag light also lit up - which was a sure indication that it is what's called the clock spring within the steering wheel. You'd have to remove the steering wheel to be sure, and I am not certain of how to test it, or if there are any tests one could perform on it. Best regards

most likely the clock spring rotating contact is defective under the steering wheel, this coiled ribbon contact is the connection from the steering wheel button to the cruise system
turn your steering wheel around to where the cruise control buttons are straight up and tilt wheel down makes it easier. Very carefully with a thin screwdriver pry it off (the clips break real easy so be gentle) once it comes off you will see the plug in. Unplug it.
