1999 Chevy Astro Van. Don't know exact model # of

1999 Chevy Astro Van. Don't know exact model # of auto trans. Check engine lights up. Only code set is P1870. Also, after 20-30 minutes driving, shifting is HARD from 1-2. These two things don't necessarily happen at the same time. Coincidently, around roughly same time this started, I lost vacuum to the ventilation selector for heat and air. I have no idea if this model trans has a vacuum modulator.

You should have a 4l60E in your astro van. Which is electrically controlled, so no vacuum modulator. However, to address the ventilation selector not working... look for a vacuum line exiting the firewall and going to the passenger rear of the intake manifold. You will likely find it broken or disconnected there.

Ecm fuse location 2001 chevy astro van
The power for the data link connector is from a 25amp fuse Number 7 in the IP fuse box. As long as the check engine light is on the computer has power.
The main computer power is from two ECM fuses in the box near the battery.
The fuse locations should be in the back of your owners manual.

1999 Chevy astro van won't start
Had the same issue with our 1999 chevy astro van, would crank but would not start. It had been raining and windshield had a leak, after 2 days of no rain it started. Pulled codes and was the Security system in the ignition switch. Hope this helps.

Check engine light on full time van runs fine
Usually an emissions problem and not allways a problem just not working properly. Most Advanced Auto, Pep Boys and franchised Auto parts dealers will run a code check for FREE.!!! (1995 autos and up)

Take the van to auto-Zone and have them scan it for free. They will tell you what the code/s are too. If they cant read any codes, with the light on, then the problem will be code specific (shop or dealer) or have to do with some other part of the vehicle (shop or dealer). How many quarts of transmission fluid does my 1999 chevy astro van require?
1999 CHEVROLET TRUCKS ASTRO VAN 4.3L 6-cyl Engine Code [W]
CAPACITIES: Automatic Transmission, 4L60-E Initial Fill..........4.7 liters
Automatic Transmission, Total Fill 4 speed 4L60-E..........10.6 liters
To check fluid level, transmission should be hot and engine running at idle. Pull the transmission dip stick out "red" wipe clean and re-insert. Check level of transmission fluid as indicated on the dip stick using the second reading and make sure the Astro is parked on leveled ground. Add Dexron III or VI as needed and do not over fill.

2001 astro chevy van 4.3 engines need to set the timing
The distributor in that engine can only be installed in one position. The hold down is built onto the distributor meaning when it is installed and the engine runs the computer is responsible for the timing. The distributor will move a little but won't correct major timing errors.

Trans jumps when accelerating out of 1st gear. This makes the service engine light come on.
I don't know what's causing the jump but, to reset the light you use an OBDII scan tool. Some parts stores like Autozone and Advance will read the codes for you for free. You could ask them to reset it after he reads them.
