1998 Gmc Sierra, door wont open at all

I have a 1998 Gmc Sierra and the outside door handle was cracked so it would come out a little. Now the door will not open at all from the inside or outside. So how would I take the door panel off when the door cant open? It has power widows and locks.

See if you can pull the outside handle out a little & put some needlenose pliers in the opening & grab the rod to open the door. otherwise unscrew the door panel & get into the inside of the door that way.

good luck

The inside door handels need to be pulled as far back as possible to get the door to open. Sometimes, they do not travel far enough to open it. if you reach outside the door opens easily with the outside...

you have to take the door handles out and replace with new ones they have to be drilled out they are riveted in but there only $15.00. easy to fix.

How do i replace the door handle on a 1998 gmc suburban

remove the inside door trim to gain access to the inside of the door, there may be plastic covering the large openings in the back of the door panel, you have to remove that as well to gain access to the rear of the door handle.
there will be a couple of nuts or bolts that you have to remove and also a metal rod which connects to the handle, once these are removed you should be able to remove the handle from the door

I have a 1998 Sierra 1500 Pickup. How do take the door panel off.

DO you have power windows or manual. If you have standard cranks then you have to remove the clip holding it to the mechanism inside. if not then there are several screws in the door panel itself. remove all of them. Pry out the bottom of the door there are plastic buttons that should stay with the panel. then lift the door panel straight up the top is hooked inside the window trim. its stiff. but it comes out. The buttons are reusable.

1998 GMC 2500 driver side door won't open from inside

standard problem; must replace the handle on the inside which entails drilling out rivets, etc. Easier to have a mechanic do it and the cost is around 150$... kind of worth it when you try to do it yourself. Let the problem go longer and the handle, itself, just lies there in a retarded fashion. Basically, the inside of the door latch has a piece of plastic that breaks off. Go figure. Build cheap ****; expect bad results.

This should have been made from a higher density material to offset this problem.

2000 GMC Sierra left rear door

Hello,

You may have 2 issues going on at the same time.
1. The child lock safety latch is up, preventing you from opening the door from the inside.
2. The inside clip to the rod that opens the door from the out side could of come off from closing the door to hard. Or the lock itself is getting stuck.

Options:
Roll the window all the way down, and look through the window crack with a flash light and see if any of the rods are just hanging and not connected.
If there are you can try using a slim jim with the cut out part facing up and try to catch the latch and pull up this could open the door.

Or you can try to take off the door panel from the inside, however this is very difficult and should be done by a professional becuse you don't want to break any thing or cause more dammage.

Once the door panel is off you can then pull the inside door release rod and open the door.

One more thing you can try: Pull the inside handle and the out side handle at the same time while having some on pull or push on the door, it just might be stuck and need a little force to open!
