1998 chevy lumina that the power shuts off when trying to start.

I have a 1998 chevy Lumina that has randomly not started, and when I turn the key, all the power on the interior of the car shuts down, no radio, no lights, no power locks or anything. Any suggestions about what it could be? Things that have worked in the past but currently are not are: kicking the wires under the steering collumn, slamming the door really hard, Jiggling the wires under the fusebox near the battery has helped as well. None of that is working right now.

Battery terminals are loose or have corrosion on them. Check both main battery lead's at the battery and + where it is connected to the starter and - where it connect's to the body and engine.

Slow start ups

Usually it is a fuel pump relay that does not supply a "prime cycle" when the key is first turned on.The fuel pump will get power when oil pressure is present, but you have to crank it a bit before oil pressure builds sending power to the pump only then and while it;s running.
A bad temp sensor can cause slow starting also.

1998 chevy lumina want start changed starter and battery still want start turn key car dead want turn over can start with jumper swicth but want stay running

Have your alternator tested.Your car will not stay running if the alternator is not producing enough power to keep the battery charged. Also have your battery tested and fully charged.Make sure your cables are in good shape.

Having starting 1998 chevy lumina when turning the key,not a thing happens.check all the fuses ok.what now

no Crank ???? try to put it in netural. possible safty switch, if no crank you will need to check the crank wire on the starter, ( The Small Wire) with a 12 volt test light, when you turn the key you should have a light. if so the starter Sol Assy has failed.... Hope this helps

I have a 1996 chevy lumina. the motor wont turn

You need to check for power at the purple wire going to the solonoid while key is in the start position, if no juice then check starter relay-under hood- fuse ,and ignition switch

No, cehcek that the terminals aren't corroided.
Maybe even remove them and clean them up.
Then try jump start.
