Too extensive to explain and diagram here; however,
Go to the "Reference Section" at your local public library.
Find the Chilton's or Motor's manual for the 1998 Ford.
Photocopy the pages you need using the public copy machines (10 ~ 20 cents per page).
You will need a large C Clamp in order to compress the brake caliper piston back into the wheel cylinder. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder; the fluid will "back-up" into the master cylinder reservoir when you compress the caliper piston.
Only two long bolts hold the floating caliper in place.

I cant get the caliper to depress when im doing the rear disc brakes on a 1998 ford taurus

The easiest way is to:
open the bleeder nut
use a C-Clamp to depress the caliper so you can slide in your brake pads. ;-)

REPLACING BRAKES,HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING GETTING BACK TOGETHER NEED DIAGRAM

You should purchase a Hanes manual at your local parts store. They can help you select the correct one. It has illustrations of the brakes and their position on the car and tells you how to turn in the calipers to compress them and how to remove and reinstall the parking brake cable, etc. I recently replaced my brakes on a 1998 Taurus and found this manual extremely helpful. There are also step by step instructions on brake pad and brake caliper replacmeent.

How to reset brake caliper

The pistons in all calipers I have seen can be forced back into their seat to allow new brake pads to clear. If constructed as most, a C-clamp can be used to press the cylinder back in.

Brake pedal goes to floor, replaced front pads rear good, bleed brakes no help

Hi:
If you have replaced all pads, and see no leaks at any wheel, and have bled your brake system, then most likely your brake master cylinder has failed.
