Mechanic told me the timing belt slipped and bent the valves on 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. Can this motor be fixed? If so what cost am I looking at? If the motor is bad and needs replaced what cost would that be?
It can be repaired, new valves and a head gasket set(gaskets and stretch bolts).
If the engine has hydraulic tappets, it is doubtful that the valves would of bent, but not impossible.
What are the symptoms?
Bent valves would mean miss-firing, back firing through inlet and/or exhaust. And a big loss of power, if it starts at all. You should also hear a very definate tapping when running.
A couple bent valves shouldnt be more then a few hundred dollars to have replacedand can be fixed yes, but also the vehicle has to have another timing chain ooput on and be retimed this will probably be a total cost of somewhere in the $800 dollar range (this is only an estimate!!) to replace your entire engine would cost substantially more and in all realit i would try to sell the opother vehicle for parts, trade in, or as a whole and buy another vehicle before i invested the money into a new engine for this particular car
