There is a fuel shut off switch by the brake master cylinder that may have popped during the accident. it has a rubber top and is round in shape. push on the top of it and if it clicks it reset
Fords are equipped with a fuel shut off switch. When hit, it shuts the fuel system off. Most of the time these are in the rear drivers side . Lift hatch up and look on the left. Sometimes it is under the panel. After an accident, this usually has to be pulled out or pushed in to reset
the GMs ecu pcm or other name similar to the vehicle's brain shuts the fuel system off automatically during an accident.
in my joint venture with ford/ nissan for my minivan, as an example, i can hit that reset switch to turn on the fuel pump if the accident set my airbags off, but the vehicle can still be driven to the side...
depending on what kind of accident and year but if 00 and up the most common is the fuel safty switch needs resetting this is a relay so when in accident it kicks to shut power off to fuel for safety
WELL I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THE NEWER CARS HAVE A FUEL RESET SAFETY SWITCH BUT NOW SEEING THAT ITS A 1985 MAYBE THE FUEL PUMP GOT JERKED OUT OF PLACE DURING ACCIDENT ITS A WILD GUESS I WOULD CHECK THE FUSES ALSO.
a lot of ford or mercurys have a fuel shut off if they are in and accident and this needs to be reset probably. some are in the trunk and some are under the dash. this is to prevent fires.
hi, i checked alldata, hyundai calls it a fuel shut off solenoid, i don't know what it does exactly, meaning, if it stays open normally, and in an accident it shuts off upon impact, or if it can be reset, or have to be replaced. i would try to disconnect, then reconnect. if that doesn't work, maybe you would have to replace. but check all of the fuses also, maybe theres one that controls another part of the systems that would not be labeled fuel pump or relay. it's even possible to have a bad fuel pump relay due to the accident, it could have jarred the relay inoperable, heres a pic of the fuel cut off/shut off solenoid, you may have to enlarge, hope it helps!
I was not aware of the dash light that said this...but doing some web research I found this info: some of the models did come with an inertia switch if you
have it on your truck then it will be drivers side floor board against
the firewall it will be the red button and this The Inertia Fuel Cut-Off Switch is a relay of sorts. This little relay is in your car to save your life from
fire by shutting off the fuel pump in the event of an accident. It cuts
the power to the fuel pumps when a predetermined force is applied. Just
like a circuit breaker the red button pops up when it is tripped. It
consists of a steel ball held in place by a magnet. When a sharp impact
occurs, the ball breaks loose from the magnet, rolls up and strikes a
target which opens the electrical contacts of the switch and shuts off
the electric fuel pump. It must be mounted straight up to work
correctly. On some vehicles a fuel reset light will illuminate on the
dash.
