1998 porsche boxster, when the roof is up there is a red light on indicating it's not closed when it is. Then the windows randomly go down by themselves. What is the problem?

That’s a question for You Tube or the dealer of course. More than likely something electronic got wet and is causing this. Try you tube and you will see if others have had the same problem. Then u may get a fix.

SOURCE: 1999 porsche boxster windows wont go up all the way

That problem appears to be in the top release. this is the thing at the top of the windshield that you release. Press the button inside of it to see if that may be the problem. it is the only thing that wouldn't let your windows go all the way up. The switch inside may have gone bad.

SOURCE: 1998 porsche boxster, battery is dead on car, and

This is a common problem. Your alarm was on when the battery went dead. When the alarm activated, the hood/bonnet opening lever locks to prevent thieves from opening the hood in case the top is down. Some boxsters have a jumper post the pulls out near the fuse box. However, I do not think the 1997-1999s have this post.

Buy a male-to-male cigarette lighter adapter at the auto store. Connect between your car's cigarette lighter socket and the other car's cigarette lighter socket. Do not try to start the ignition or the any other electronics. You should not even need the key in the ignition. You should be able to pop the door locks with the remote and open the bonnet.

1998 boxster top switch does not respond dash light indicates micro switch is functioning, latch micro switch is functioning but top is not response when the top up or down switch in engaged, top worked...

There are 3 microswitches on the Boxster, one in the hand brake that triggers the "Park" light on the dash, a second switch in the top latch, that drops the windows a few inches when open and allows the windows to roll all the way up when latched. There is a third switch under the clam shell that indicates the top is fully open or fully closed . There is also a speed sensor in the top controller in the fuse box that prevents the top from opening if the speedo shows greater than zero mph. If pulling the parking brake triggers the dash light and the top still won't operate, the latch switch is likely the culprit. I recently replaced mine on my '99.

To close the top, the parking brake must be engaged and the ignition in the ON position. Assuming that these conditions are met, you can close the top manually if needed. The procedure involves (1) removing key, (2) removing convertible top link covers, (3) gently prying conv top lid links on both side, (4) lifting the conv top lid to open position, (5) gently prying the red links off, and (6) finally manually lifting the top to the closed position.

Before taking such measures, if you do not hear the motors, check the B6 and D3 relays. You might also want to check the microswitch on the top/center windshield frame.

My roof will not go down. The windows do when I unleash the hook. 1996 model. Never had a problem.Same as guy before, no sound, click, nothing. Have checked all my fuses, if blown & made sure in right...

I've got exactly the same problem. As suggested before checked the fuses, checked the brake light comes on don't know what could be the problem. Spoke to an independent porsche mechanic who says its probably a cable jam in the roof. £120 to unjam. I've got my doubts as there is no noise or anything its just dead!! Any joy with your roof any help would be most appreciated.

The convertible top won't go up or down

Check that rear boot lid is closed. Open and close it again to be sure. Check if handbrake warning light functions, because if this light does not function, then the roof will not work. If the light is not working, work handbrake lever up and down rapidly and you might get the switch to work again for a bit and then check the roof switch again. If all these are fine, then further diagnosis is required on switching, relay etc..
