it is located on the drivers side underneath the van. you have to remove it from the underside of the car. you will need a 17 millimeter socket or wrench. Remove the ground cable before attempting to remove the starter.

SOURCE: car wont turn over to

You say it is not the battery, so I will assume that it is either new or you had it load tested. When you say the light on the dash light up do you mean all the dash lights, radio, and head light works? If there is no cranking it is most likely the starter is bad.

SOURCE: 1998 toyota sienna occassionally not starting.

The gear reduction starter on this motor has a pattern failure of the solenoid contacts that transmit the voltage to the starter brushes. There is a repair kit available for replacing the contacts or you might just change the starter with a rebuilt unit. Intermittent function is almost always this problem.

SOURCE: chrysler voyager wont start

hi, have exactly the same problem on a 2000 2.5 tdi, have rectified it by removing first fuse at top of box. This controls central locking, stereo & interior lights so now I just have to trace fault. when you reconnect battery I hear a relay clicking from both the left & right hand sides which seems to be on the bulkhead, these relays are not releasing and are discharging the battery after 3 days. If you can live without the above try it, your odometer light will go off too.
Will post soultion when I find it. [email protected]

I replaced timing belt for 2001 Kia Optima, I set timing marks correct, engine start then stopped quickly. Wierd sound. Battery ok, starter ok.

hi olga.
The starter won't crank. If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the "Start" position, it means that the starter motor doesn't turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; here is How to check the battery. ... The starter motor itself or a starter solenoid could be bad.13 Aug 2013

How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

There is a starter relay located in the under under fuse box , the ignition switch energizes it sending B+ voltage to the solenoid on the starter .

Free wiring diagram here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html ..

Starter Voltage Drop you could have bad battery positive cable going to the starter , starter relay ,transaxle range switch . Does your Kia have a burglar alarm ? There are a lot of thing's that could cause a no crank no start , maybe your best bet would have it towed to a qualified repair shop . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits ?

My 2007 kia sportage clicks sometimes will start sometimes not any ideas what to check

Hi, i would have the starter motor checked out the click usually comes from the starter solenoid. It could also be a bad main wire connection at the starter from the battery.

2000 Kia Sportage where running but disconnect the battery now it want start

Try this:

Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter. Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine.
  • Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.
  • Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck bendix gear.
  • Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

positive side connects to the alternator and negative connects to the floor of the car, holds the voltage of the case at ground potential to protect against electric shock.

"i have a 99 kia sportage i just replaced the

That is a problem for the experienced mechanic
I would start at the battery, all cables, wires ground wires
& look at the alternator output, current & diodes.
Sounds like a module is not getting battery voltage or
could be an issue also
Don't see the starter in that picture unless you had no
problems before it got put in ,then something other
than the starter was disturbed or grounded out by the key
being on etc, sloppy work practice & ruined something
