SOURCE: polo classic1.6i i replaced oil pumpand hydraulic

If the car has been run our of oil or ran long with hardly any oil. this will eat the bearing off of the crankshaft, thus getting no oil pressure. When you first start a cold car the oil is thicker, when it warms up to operating temperture, the oil is much thinner. This is the difference between having oil pressure and having none. When the bearings wear out it creates a much larger gap to fill and keep pressure in. The gap gets to big and not enough oil gets to the top of the engine to supply the lifters, so they begin to tap

14 The reservoir for the Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering (EPHS) is located on the front left-hand corner of the engine compartment. Note: On some models with a high capacity battery, the battery and tray must be removed in order to access the reservoir filler cap. The fluid level is checked with the dipstick attached to the reservoir filler cap. Unscrew the cap from the hydraulic fluid reservoir, and wipe clean the integral dipstick with a clean cloth (see illustration) .

Polo GTI wont start

sounds like the starter isn't engaging-it needs to be replaced or it will destroy your fly wheel if you don't take action-and then you'd have to have it replaced-Denny

My 96 vw polo developed a large oil leak on the drivers side of the engine around lowest pulley wheel is it the oil seal ?

i dont think its the oil seal check the oil pressure light switch ,i am assuming its a RHD model a the engine pulley would be on this side on a RHD vehicle ,now if its the engine model iam thinking of then the oil switch is at the top of the engine on the cylinder head about 3 inches back from the cam gear wheel ,failing which it could be the head gasket as the oil feed to the head is here as well

Starting Knocking of the engine when cold

if iam not mistaken here and no doubt i am but without hearing the noise i cannot really say but i would hazard a guess and say its a hydraulic tappet clacking and to cure this you will need to add a couple of capfulls of washing up liquid to the oil and half a pint of diesel as well .Run engine for a couple of days and if iam right the noise will stop ,When it stops drain the oil and change it for a new filter and oil ,then make sure you change the oil every 6000miles and the filter every third oil change this will prevent the build up of clagg inside the engine blocking things up .
