SOURCE: ESP/BAS

If the ESP light is on, the system is not functioning. have your dealer look at and replace your Brake Light Switch

SOURCE: ESP/BAS warning light on. went

Hi, these systems are all linked together. Most commonly, one of the wheel speed sensors is not reading or is reading incorrectly. This can also occur on slippery surfaces where one or more wheel slides enough to cause the sensor to drop the signal, but not enough to meet criteria for an abs or esp episode. If the light comes back every time you turn on the ignition, there is a deeper problem.
The system has detected a fault in the electronic stability program - brake assist system. You have an electrical connection at the rear wheels secured to the inside of the brake area and are viewable from under the vehicle. It is a small wire harness running to each wheel. Grab the connector and wiggle it around, and make sure they are tight. Due to the connector being mounted low to the ground, sometimes they become dirty or corroded, not making contact. Do this on both sides and see if the lights turn off.

If the light does not turn off, you have to replace dynamics sensor, which is mounted UNDERNEATH the center console in the car. There is a "lost communication to dynamics sensor" and "low voltage to dynamics sensor supply"..

SOURCE: esp warning light and bas on

Hi there:
The BAS/ESP lights pertain to your brake assist and electronic stability systems. One of the more common problems we find is a faulty stop light switch or a steering angle sensor. It would be a good idea to have the fault codes read. The codes would give you a pretty good idea as to what is going on. You could try to initialize the steering angle sensor first. This is normally needed after a dead or weak battery condition. To do this you'll need to start the car and then turn the wheel slowly all the way to the left, pause and then turn slowly all the way to the right, pause and return to center. You may need to do it a couple of times to initialize the sensor. The stop light switches are inexpensive and easily replaced. They're located under the dash at the brake pedal. When you get your new switch you'll see a little release tab on it. You just depress the tab and rotate the switch 90 degrees to remove it.

Before to replace some parts, I suggest scaned the computer car in order to know other fault codes stored.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day

2001 mercedes slk 200 esp/bas light comes on just after pulling off but car runs normal. What can be wrong, bas or esp

That is a very complicated system with lots of sensors and switches on and will have to be diagnosed with a suitable diagnostic scanner, if you try and guess the problem and fit parts it will potentially get very expensive very fast.

BAS/ ESP light on the dash bord stays on all time the car engine is running

The BAS stands for Brake Assist System, don't remember what ESP stands for.
But the first thing to do is make sure the brake lights go on when you hit the pedal.
If not, then replace the brake light switch above the pedal.
If that is not it, it could be many things, such as a bad lateral acceleration switch.

I had a similar problem with my car and was advised that the ESP and BAS normally come out as a direct result of the low voltage on the battery.Chances are your battery life has expired. Replace your battery with a new one. To remove the ESP you need to start your engine, turn the steering wheel all the way to left and right, repeat this a couple of times, switch off and restart your car.Make sure you don't leave your lightsand wipers on the auto position as this sometimes drains your buttery power unnecessarily. These simple steps should take away the frustration and make you enjoy your car again.
