Chevy Malibu Maxx 2004 Hard Start

This problem only happens once every week or two weeks. When I try to turn the car on, it won't start right away. It would take 6-12 tries. It also displays a message that reads Check RSE. Sometimes this happens after I put gas in my car. Any idea what that could be please? Thanks very much!

I think RSE stands for Rear Seat Entertainment. and prob has nothing to do with the hard start issue...

Testimonial: "Yes, RSE is Rear Seat Entertainment.. But i still get this message when the car can't start. Thanks!"

SOURCE: 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx engine troubles

Put a voltmeter on the battery whilst cranking. Sometimes a marginal battery will have a big voltage drop that will cause the engine to crank but not start with the remote starter but it will start with the key. One attempt with the remote puts unburnt fuel in the engine that throws off the next attempt to start with the key.

SOURCE: 2004 chevy malibu won't start up

I have an 04 Malibu and when I get hard starts when I'm in the car I just press the accelerator down about half way and it always starts right up, some times I have to hold the accelerator down a little after starting to stop it from stalling but it is rare.

SOURCE: car wont start once ieng is shut off for 20mins or longer

this sounds like a defective fuel pump, but u will need to have the fuel pressure tested when it acts up to verify this is the issue 100%, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.

SOURCE: inexpensive way to increase horsepower in 2004 chevy malibu maxx

What your asking for is a way to cheat the computer. What little you gain isnt going to be worth it once the catalytic converts fails because of it and you have to spend hundreds to replace it.

Also if you were to put one of those performance chips in then your goingto stress the transmission and it too will fail.

We get repairs like this all the time because people arnt aware of the ramifications of putting more stress on things. Chevys already have weak transmissions and are always in for repairs.

I do not recommend you do anything.

SOURCE: Factory remote start on 2004 Malibu Maxx stopped working

Fixed!!! I had several problems with my wife's remote start/lock/unlock/trunk/ panic. First it stopped working, i replaced the battery to find out that the battery holder inside the remote had broken solder at two points. Went to Harbor Freight bought a solder gun for $5 and solder wire for about $2. Once home i soldered the points back together (first time i've ever soldered anything). Put the new battery in and it didn't work. I pulled the whole thing apart and took the circuit board and touched the contacts where the button would have pushed at with a piece of metal. They locked and unlocked the car. So i knew at that point that the rubber thing was jacked. i got some tin foil and 5minute epoxy. Then i clued little tiny squares on the little black Nipples where they would contact the circuit board. Waited 6 minutes and put back together. Found out that if you start the car twice with out puting the key in the ignition you can't use the remote start. After putting the key in the ignition and starting it you reset the system and can remote start again. Dealer wanted 114 for the key remote and 54 to reprogram the remote to the car. I fixed my factory remote for under $20. Hope this helps someone

My 2006 chevy malibu Maxx runs great, but about once a week starts hard.

The first test will be to see which cyl the missfire is coming from. When you have isolated the cyl first rem the plug and swop it out with a new one.If the problem is still there the inj of that cyl must be removed and tested for over fueling. If the missfire cant be isolated to a specific cyl you can check the water temp sensor which if faulty will cause the injection system to over fuel under certain conditions.

I have a 2005 chevy malibu, and one morning it just wouldn't start, the car never showed signs of anything wrong, and when I turn the key it just make a beeping noise.

I have a Chev 2004 Malibu and so does my cousin.. This is a problem that A LOT of these cars have, but Chevy does not see this as a SAFTY issue... so they will not fix it. This problem will continue to happen to you.. there is NO way to fix it or by pass it. Basically your ingition is not recognizing your key, and this is Chevy's crappy way of keeping your car from being stolen. You will notice when your car doesn't start, your THEFT SYSTEM light is BLINKING... What you need to do is, when this happens to you, leave your key in the ignition, and turn it to ACC. Leave it there for approximately 10 minutes, until the THEFT SYSTEM light is SOLID, not BLINKING anymore. Turn your car off, and then turn it back on. Your car should start right up. I had this happen to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I got in my car for 2 weeks! Then it stopped and I thought it wouldn't do it anymore. But just as you need to be somewhere and you are running late.. THE CAR KNOWS!!! And it will do it to you again! Good luck!

WHILE OPERATING REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHTS COME ON AND CAR LOSES POWER DOES THIS AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND NO SET PATTERN

pay more attention to when it happens, turning, taking off from a stop, is the road wet or slippery.

if the road is slippery and you take off from a stop or make a turn while acellerating on wet road the right tire will start to spin on the slippery surface, when this happens the computer will sense the slipping and reduce the engine power just long enough to re-gain control and goes back to normal.
