I have a Commodore VT 3.8 V6 1999 and when I open the driver's door, a clicking* noise ~4 per second comes from under the RH dash possibly near the steering column. How to fix?

The noise is similar to the blinker sound though slightly louder and much quicker. I have pulled each fuse one by one and the 10A Engine Cont fuse stops the clicking. The air-cond and radio is off. The driver's courtesy light has been out for a while though the clicking stops when the driver's door is open, ie the RHF courtesy light switch is out/on. Opening other doors instead has no effect. No strange indicator lights are on the dash. The car starts fine. How this happened may be relevant: The passenger front door would not close and I could see some black plastic bits had shattered in the door latch. I jammed the door light so the battery wouldn't flatten, removed the door trim, disconnected the courtesy light and then the LHR door latch mechanism which was still connected for testing. It was full of gunk so cleaned with WD40 and removed the remaining broken bits of the door latch. It then operated as expected. When putting the latch back in the LH door frame the clicking noise* started. I don't see any damaged wiring. I reinstalled the latch which worked fine, opening from inside and out and locking/unlocking both with the door lock knob and the key. I found a door trim courtesy light lug was broken so did not bother connecting and just taped up the connectors. I then found the battery was just too flat to start the car. I recharged it and the car now starts but the clicking* persists until the driver's door is opened. The clicking starts again when closed. Any help is appreciated.

You have broken wires in the flexable harness between the door and the body. Pull the rubber boot back to inspect.

SOURCE: 2002 taurus passenger door lock

Mine did this. I went around to each door and sprayed a liberal amount of WD-40 in the latch, then open and closed each door about five times. It hasn't done it since. I think the switch inside was not moving freely.

SOURCE: Camry 1996 automatic power lock doen't work, but windows work.

if you can here relays when unlocking/locking check for power at door lock actuators inside doors, if you have power on lock/unlock and good earth from connector actuators are faulty.
if no power on test light when operating check output from central door lock module while operating, none coming out of module then it might need replacing.
check 30Amp power fuse for main relay under bonnet (which goes to pin 8 white/blue on module)and 10Amp gauge fuse in cab(pin 1 blue/red on module),pin 15 is also power when relay is on(red/blue) with test light, and module/ actuators.
check outputs from module pin 3 & 4
blue/red
blue/black
that go to door locks

How do I repair the vt commodore rh front door escutcheon assy

Good afternoon,

From my previous experience and knowledge you will nomal get lick a cracking and knocking when opening the door this is due to worn check strap centre bush.
In some cases you can just replace the bush but depending on how long its been like it I have found with some commodores when you loosen the bolt they tend to break .So I would recommend you change the whole check strap ,bush and bolt assembly.
if you go the the front a pillar and open the door you will see the top and bottom hinges approx. half way up you will see then plate with a 10mm bolt through it attach to the a pillar.
1.remove the 10mm bolt an nut.this end will then come away from a pillar.
2.fully open door on the other end of check strap you will find to 10mm nuts remove these and check strap will be removable.
3.please remove the door will have no tension.
4.fit new check strap to inside of door.
5.then slow close door so you can align the check strap with a pillar bracket once this is done .
6.fit 10mm bolt and nut and tighten do not over tighten .
7.open and close door cracking noise will be gone ..
hope this helps you

no the code is not 1013
it should flash this same sequence 3 times (one flash small pause then 3 flashes large pause) and then repeat it if there is no other code. if another code is present then it will flash a different number 3 times and then start again with your original code.

I am not familiar with your vehicle, Ive never heard of it. However a lightning bolt symbol would probably indicate a problem with your electrical system, possibly the battery or alternator.

Power windows

Under the dash next to the steering columb there is a control module for the power windows. this has a series of relays inside. Toggle the switch on one of the doors with the power on and you should hear a clicking noise coming from the box. If no noise, check relays and fuses under the hood near battery before replacing the control module.
