Handle wont open driver door from indside this morning on my 02

remove the door trim and reattach the wire connection to the handle pull or door lock

handles may be in good condition but the lever on the latch itself may have came loose. your mostlikley looking at dismantelling the apolsery with the door closed to rectify it.

I opened one when working at a breakers and found dry joints to be the problem,There is 1 bank of fuses under the steering whell and the main one on the drivers side dash viewed with door open.

make sure the door handle on the outside has returned to normal position, sometimes the cold will make them stick. The door opens but the outside handle sticks open and the door won't latch. Hope this helps.

most of the time the plastic breaks from the handle or it knocks out of place. not hard to fix. Take your door panel off and look.

THE DOOR CATCH HAS A DOUBLE "C" THAT HOLDS THE DOOR CLOSED. FIRST TAKE A SCREWDRIVER INSIDE THE "C". USING THE HANDLE ON THE INSIDE, PULL THE HANDLE AS IF YOU WERE OPENING THE DOOR AND AT THE SAME TIME, OPEN THE DOUBLE "C" WITH THE SCREWDRIVER. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. have you checked the fuses make sure they are not burned.its usually the red but check all of them.

Enter car from left rear behind the driver and see if you can manually unlock it from the inside. Then use remote to test it.

Can you open the door with the inside handle? If you can, the problem is probably a broken plastic fitting inside between the outside handle and the door latch. There are door panel removal tools available at your local parts store that look like short handled wide bladed pry bars. You could get by with a good stiff putty knife if needed. Take off the arm rest, window crank, and speaker grill if you have aftermarket speakers. Slide the door panel removal tool under the edge of the door panel and CAREFULLY pop the clips loose from the door frame. You could always leave the window open and do the "Dukes of Hazard" thing, but then you would have to change the paint scheme.

Buy a different van. I maintain a fleet of 10 Astros and the automatic door locks on all of them do not work. 5 of them have windows that don't work. The rear door handles on three of them have broken in half. The auto door latch in the 02 will not open.
